Finally hit 4,000 watch hours and got monetized today.

I've had YouTube on and off for probably 15 years, but I never really took it seriously. Over the last year I finally decided to give it a real shot.

I basically started filming things I was already doing anyway — traveling, outdoors, fishing, hunting, sporting events, gaming and just life with my wife and dogs.

It's definitely been a grind. A lot of videos went nowhere, while some random Shorts did better than I ever expected. Streaming also ended up helping me a lot with the watch hours.

I'm definitely not making a living from this lol, but seeing that 4,000 today felt pretty damn good.

Now the goal is to keep growing, get more subscribers and see where this thing can actually go.

For anyone else still grinding toward 4K — keep uploading. It really does add up.

We just spent 8 days at Secrets Cap Cana. Here's what we thought.

My wife and I just got back from an 8-day trip to Secrets Cap Cana over Memorial Day weekend, and I wanted to share our experience since this group helped us a lot while we were planning.

We honestly had an amazing time. The beach was beautiful, the resort was spotless, and every employee we met was friendly and welcoming. We never had a bad meal, but our favorite restaurant was definitely the French restaurant. It was so good that we'd make it a point to eat there again on our next trip.

About halfway through the trip we decided to upgrade to a swim-out room, and we're really glad we did. It ended up being one of our favorite parts of the vacation. We spent a lot of mornings and evenings just relaxing out there.

One thing people always ask about is the seaweed. We had some during our stay, but the staff was out there every morning cleaning the beach, and it never took away from the trip for us. Also, if you're comfortable swimming past the seaweed barrier, the water was incredibly clear and surprisingly shallow. It was a huge difference compared to the water inside the barrier, and you can really see it in a few of the videos.

I filmed our vacation because when we were planning, I was always looking for videos that showed what the resort was actually like instead of just promotional footage. I ended up putting our entire trip into one playlist, from arrival day and room tours to the restaurants, beach, pools, excursions, and our swim-out room. If you're planning a trip and want to see what an actual guest experience looked like, hopefully it helps.

If anyone has any questions about the resort, feel free to ask. We'd definitely go back.

Looking for honest feedback on my YouTube channel (thumbnails, titles, branding, etc.)

Hey everyone,

I've been putting more time into my YouTube channel lately and wanted to get some honest feedback from other creators.

I attached a screenshot of my recent uploads because I'm trying to improve, especially when it comes to thumbnails, titles, editing, pacing, and anything else that stands out. If you looked at my channel, what would be the first thing you'd change?

I'm not looking for people to sugarcoat it. If something isn't working, I'd rather know so I can improve. Whether it's my thumbnails, the way I edit, my titles, or even the direction of the channel, I'm open to any advice.

Thanks to anyone willing to take a few minutes to help me out.

Need ideas for this backyard corner. Fire pit, movie nights, dogs, privacy?

ve got this corner of my backyard that I've never really been happy with. It just feels unfinished, and I'd like to turn it into a place we actually spend time in.

A few things I'd like to have:

  • A nice area around the fire pit.
  • Somewhere comfortable to sit (or even lay down) with my two German Shepherds.
  • A spot for outdoor movie nights with a projector.
  • A little more privacy from the neighbors across the back corner without making the whole yard feel closed in.

I'm open to pretty much anything—gravel, pavers, a small DIY deck, cedar privacy walls, pergolas, landscaping, built-in benches, etc. I don't really have a plan yet, so I'm looking for ideas.

I'm planning on doing all of the work myself. I don't mind spending money if it's something that's going to last ("buy once, cry once"), but I'd rather invest in good materials and build it myself than pay contractors.

What would you do if this was your backyard? I'd love to see pictures of similar projects or hear what worked for you.

Thanks!

My Kobo got a pretty nice view today.

Currently reading poolside at Secrets Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. One of my favorite things about having an eReader is being able to bring an entire library on vacation. I switched from a Kindle to a Kobo recently, and I've been enjoying the Kobo much more than I expected.

Just got back from Secrets Cap Cana

Just got back from Secrets Cap Cana. We stayed in a non-Preferred Club Ocean View room/Swim up and filmed the arrival process, airport transfer, room tour, and first impressions. Happy to answer any questions for anyone with an upcoming trip.

Hey everyone,

My wife and I are heading to Secrets Cap Cana in about two weeks and wanted to hear some recent experiences from anyone who’s been there lately.

A few things we’re curious about:

How was the beach? Any issues with seaweed or was it pretty clean?

Overall vibe – more relaxed or busier this time of year?

Also, we booked an ocean view room but are thinking about trying to upgrade to Preferred Club or possibly a swim-up for a few nights once we get there.

Has anyone had luck upgrading mid-stay for a couple night?

Appreciate any insight — just trying to get a feel for what to expect and make the most of the trip.

Thanks!

Finally pulled the trigger.

Wife and I got 3-day tickets for Turn 19 at COTA. First F1 race ever for both of us, and we’re meeting up with some of my Army buddies out there that weekend.

We’re local to Austin, just trying to figure out how to do this without it turning into a headache.

Couple things I’m trying to get right:

  • Is it better to just drive and park or mess with shuttles?
  • What time should we actually be getting there each day?
  • How bad is it getting out after the race… like real talk
  • Anything we should 100% do to get the full F1 weekend experience
  • Can you tailgate at COTA? Like bring a flat top / camping stove or something?

Also if anyone’s sat Turn 19 before, how is it? Looks like a good view but curious what to expect.

Appreciate any advice — trying to make this a solid weekend for me, the wife, and the boys. TYIA
