Bosmeri Pantheon
The Bosmer are my favorite race in the Elder Scrolls. I've found many ways to play a Bosmer from a undetectable stealth archer, a heavy armored warrior, and a powerful sorcerer. I love their lore to bits and so I thought I'd make a post about the Pantheon of gods the Bosmeri worship.
First thing to understand is Bosmeri faith is extremely fluid. They constantly adopt gods and their interpretations from a variety of cultures into their own. There are 8 noteable deities they venerate or acknowledge but they do not believe the gods to be limited to 8. This means some wood elves could adopt and believe in gods such as Dibella or Talos depending on their upbringing even if not mentioned.
The Eight
Y'ffre, god/goddess of the forest and song
Starting with the most important deity in the pantheon we have Y'ffre. The spirit of "the now". The first of the Ehlnofey, or Earth Bones. They gave shape and order to creation which was in chaos following the initial creation and it was difficult for lesser spirits to hold their shape. The Bosmer are considered to have the perfect form envisioned by Y'ffre. Y'ffre is also incredibly fluid appearing as both male and female in stories. Sometimes both and neither.
Auri-El the Time God
Considered to be the Dragon Time god. The King of the spirits. Us Bosmer claim direct descent from Auri-El. Though, we do not share the idea Mundus is a trap. Yes, Auri-El and the gods were tricked for they knew yet not the cost for it's creation. But when Auri-El ascended to the heavens so too did he create a path to the heavens. Mundus is our home and upon our passing may we ascend to the heavens
Xarxes the god of history and ancestry
Xarxes is not well known but still venerated in Valenwood. He is the keeper of forbidden knowledge and the record keeper of history and ancestry. He created his wife Oghma based on his favorite moments in history which is where we get he Oghma Infinium
Arkay god of Cycle of life and death
You may already be familiar with this god as one of the eight divines of the imperial pantheon from which he is adopted by the Bosmer. He is the keeper of the cycle of life and death.
Mara goddess of love and fertility
A goddess you may find in nearly every single faith across tamriel and Nirn itself. Mara teaches us to love one another and those who fall by our hand. Often associated with marriage.
Z'en the god of toil
Z'en is similar to the imperial Zenithar, though the name is believed to have come from the Akaviri. He is the god of the land, commerce, craftsmanship, agriculture and so on.
Stendar god of mercy
Yet another well known deity if you are familiar with the imperial Divines. Though we view him not only as the god of mercy and compassion but also as the apologist of men. Who taught that men are not to blame for the actions of the trickster Lorkhan. Men too were once spirits as ourselves and we do not put ourselves above men. They are our equals and if you ask me are far more correct about the gods than our Altmeri cousins.
Baan Dar god of thieves
We Bosmer have adopted Baan Dar from our neighbors the Khajiit. Theft is not considered a crime as it is in other places. Where in other places if you get caught you are imprisoned for a period of time. Nay we believe if a skillful thief has managed to acquire your goods and is later caught as the thief well you should've kept this possession closer because they have acquired it fairly.
Miscellaneous
These are honorable mentions of gods who are venerated or acknowledged in Valenwood. Once again the faith is incredibly fluid, however these are well known cults within Valenwood. There is who many call Hermeus Mora who we call Herma or Herma Mora. Hircine the god of the hunt. Lorkhan, the trickster.
