[Addon] Nem: UI Swap — flip your entire UI between PvE and PvP

I run a pretty different setup for PvE and PvP. Different addons loaded, different nameplates, a different UI scale, even a different Edit Mode layout. Every time I swapped content I was flipping all of it by hand, and I got tired of it. So I built a master switch.

Nem: UI Swap is a one-command utility. Type /NemPvE or /NemPvP and it stages your whole interface for that mode, then asks you to reload. One click and everything flips at once.

A single swap can:

  • Switch your addon set. It drives an addon-set manager like SimpleAddonManager to load the right set for the mode, no extra reload of its own.
  • Switch addon profiles. Any addon that stores its active profile in a saved variable can flip to its PvE or PvP profile (Chattynator, EnhanceQoL, and the like).
  • Apply per-mode CVars. UI scale, friendly nameplates, the built-in damage meter, and more. There is a picker of the most commonly swapped PvE/PvP CVars built in, so you do not have to go digging for the names.
  • Activate an Edit Mode layout. Loads whichever Edit Mode layout you paired with each mode.

Everything is saved per character. If you trigger a swap in combat it just queues and applies the moment combat ends.

It is just a utility. One command, one reload, and nothing polling in the background between swaps. You set up each side once and then forget about it.

The addon-set piece currently works through SimpleAddonManager. If you use a different addon manager to handle your loaded addons, let me know which one and I will look at adding support for it. That is the main thing I want to grow next.

Curious what interface elements you swap between and what you would want me to cover that it does not yet.

Nem: Pet Alerts — settings profiles, a rebuilt tabbed options panel, and the start of language support

Pets have a habit of dying, wandering off, or flipping to Passive at the worst possible moment — usually right when you've stopped watching the bottom of your screen. Nem: Pet Alerts is the addon I built to catch exactly those moments, and it just picked up a sizable update I wanted to share.

Quick rundown for anyone who hasn't run it: it gives you a big on-screen alert (with optional voice callouts) the second your pet hits a problem — dead, dismissed, stuck in CC, low health, sitting on Passive, or needing a re-summon. It supports Hunter, Warlock, Frost Mage, and Unholy Death Knight, each with class specific wording (Pet / Demon / Water Elemental / Ghoul).

This update is about customization, and opening it up to other languages:

Settings profiles — save your whole setup as a named profile and switch between them, with each character picking its own. Copy from an existing profile, or export yours to a string to share it.

Rebuilt options panel — reorganized into General, Audio, Visual, and Profiles tabs instead of one long scroll. New along the way: a Font Outline style, an Output Channel setting (route alert sounds through Master/Music/Effects/Ambience/Dialog, with its own volume), and a Flash Style dropdown — Static, Subtle Fade, or Intense Pulse.

Language support — there's now a Language selector with an Auto (client default) option, and every alert, label, and message runs through a translation layer. This release ships English plus the framework to add more, with Traditional Chinese registered as a starting point. Anything not yet translated falls back to readable English, so nothing ever shows up blank. (Still currently working on this localization with a community member)

Same goal as always — keep it clean and specialized, do the one job well, and stay quiet until your pet actually needs you.

If you play a pet class, give it a run and tell me what it's missing or getting wrong for your spec. Nothing is too nit picky. Drop a comment here or hop in the Discord.

One more thing, same offer as on my healer addon: if you speak another language and you'd be interested in building a localization for it, please reach out and we'll get it worked out. ❤️

Nem: Healer Alerts — big update: Rebuilt options panel, and full Traditional Chinese support

It's been a while since I posted about Nem: Healer Alerts, and it's grown a lot since then, so I wanted to share where it's at along with what just went out today.

For anyone new to it: it's a healer addon that throws big, readable on-screen alerts (plus raid-frame border glows and optional voice callouts) the moment a HoT is about to fall off, a cooldown comes back, a proc lights up, or your coverage drops. All seven healer specs will be covered - But today its Resto Druid, Holy Priest, Disc Priest, and Mistweaver Monk.

Today's update is mostly about making it work for you, and extending support to other audiences:

Settings profiles — you can now save your whole setup as a profile and switch between them per character. Copy settings from another profile, or export one to a string and hand it to a friend. Your current settings become your Default profile automatically, so nothing gets wiped.

Rebuilt options panel — the whole thing moved onto the shared Nem framework and split into General, Audio, Visual, and Profiles tabs, so it matches Nem: Pet Alerts now. Everything from the old layout is still there, plus a few new options: a Font Outline setting, an Output Channel so you can route alert sounds through Master/Music/Effects/Ambience/Dialog, and a Flash Style dropdown (Static, Subtle Fade, or Intense Pulse) in place of the old on/off toggle.

Traditional Chinese support — the entire interface is now translated into 繁體中文, including a full voice pack of spoken cues for every spec. Chinese characters also render correctly now even on a Western client, where they used to show up as empty boxes.

If you heal and you give it a shot, I'd genuinely love to hear what feels noisy, what's missing, or what your spec needs that it doesn't do yet. Nothing is too nit picky. Drop a comment here or hop in the Discord.

One more thing, and this is a big ask/offer. If you speak another language and you're interested in creating a localization in your language, please reach out to me and we can get it worked out. ❤️

Narrator Appreciation!

While I will always be a massive fan of Andrea Parsneau’s reading of The Wandering Inn, Erin Bennett is REALLY growing on me! I just finished Couriers Outbound and I am already desperate for the next book. This series is just so damn good.

I have a question to you all: Am I just growing more accustomed to Erin’s voices, or is she actually more on point as the books go on? Initially, I thought her male voices sounded a bit too alike and were hard to distinguish. I remember Floss sounding quite a bit off. Pisces sounded like an old man. Now, they’re much better.

But all this to say, I officially approve of Erin taking up the mantle. She is doing a fantastic job, and I’m completely hooked. What do you guys think? Did she "level up"?

Monk and Druid alert logic have been giga-optimized. CPU Usage down 85% in all scenarios. I removed every ticker/polling in the LUA and instead I’m using wow events to create the alerts. Because buff icons cannot glow anymore with the 12.0.5 update, there is now a frame glow where it makes sense.

Long story short, I tested a ton of raiding this weekend on Monk and Druid and I’m very satisfied with the state they are in. I’m heavily encouraging feedback for those who test these two classes. Anything is on the table, don’t hesitate because it feels nit picky!

Disc priest is next to get this treatment. It’ll roll out this week in v24. I’ve also committed to adding TTS options for the alerts for those who want them. I’ll need to find/create some .ogg files(Sounds) for these new sound options. That’ll likely be v25 before I take on the next healer spec.

Cheers, thanks for reading!
