Classic Space vehicle base revival or just a parts update?

Pure speculation, but a new part just showed up: Vehicle, Base 4 x 7 x 2/3 with Axle Holes in Light Bluish Gray, with no set association yet.

This feels like a modern update to the original small vehicle chassis concept used in early Classic Space sets like 886 Space Buggy and 889 Radar Truck, which relied on multi-brick assemblies before a dedicated molded base existed.

If this new version is a revision, the added axle holes could point to a more versatile, modern reinterpretation of that classic small rover platform idea.

Could be nothing, but it’s an interesting evolution of a very specific footprint.

City Space Elevator

Made some good progress on the elevator module for my City Spacebase this weekend after a much needed BrickLink order arrived. The new parts let me add some much-needed greebling along the side and complete the mechanism for the elevator movement.

I also hooked it up to a Powered Up motor and repurposed my Pico 2W wireless keypad project as a remote control, so the elevator can now be operated wirelessly. Seeing it move under its own power makes the whole concept feel much more real.

For now, I've attached it to a temporary section of the spacebase until I can get enough parts to build a second elevator. The final plan is to create a gate at the entrance to the base, with matching elevator towers on either side connected by an overpass spanning the gateway.
