Velvet ant trying to sting my tweezers right before stridulating

The sound of it stridulating is not very audible unless you turn the volume all the way up and listen closely, but the abdomen moving is still clearly visible. (The wasp was not harmed)

How the fuck?

This formica rufibarbis queen's brood has cocoon but it's her 12th day of being in the tube, how is this possible..? (I did not take her from an existing colony, there was a nuptial flight happening and i found her after the nuptial flight ended)

Heating questions

So I have a Messor queen in a test tube with several eggs (or maybe larvae, I’m not sure). I’ve read that Messor species benefit a lot from heating, but I’m very new to the hobby and would really appreciate some guidance.

I’m open to any advice, but my main questions are:

What temperature (°C) should I aim for?

Should I heat the entire test tube, or just part of it?

Thanks!
