My custom repaint for Curly

As soon as I picked up this Trick Or Treat Studios life-size Curly mask, I knew I was going to repaint it just a bit this October. I grew up with the original 1995 Calendar, his first real exposure to the masses, & he was always depicted as much more impressive looking as soon as they gave him the "totally rad 90s pink mohawk & shades". They also made sure to utilize his empty eye sockets & add just the slightest hint of red irises. Really made him stand out apart from "generic skeleton with eyeballs". While I do appreciate the work & sculpt that TOTS has given us, I felt his eyes could be made to look that much closer to the original imagery I adored. So I messed around with it, the eye pupils are unfortunately fixed in place, so had to paint around it as best as I could without making him look cross-eyed 🤣 But in the end, I like where this is going so far. You really have to layer on the paint, as one coat definitely won't do it. May end up doing more later, but wanted to showcase the process, before & after, & hopefully inspire anyone else that has this beautiful mask to alter it if they have felt the same way.

Newly Painted Box with Replica Super Specs

I was able to get one of the 20 reproduced screen accurate prop replica pieces from Are You Afraid Of The Dark Season 1 Episode 11: "The Tale Of The Super Specs." It was created by @90snicktube on etsy & Instagram. He did an initial run of 10 last October, I believe, & then another batch of 10 final pieces bringing the total to 20. They all came in an identical wooden box, with the bag of dust & a certificate of authenticity included. I told him I was instantly sparked with creativity for an art project where I would paint the plain brown box with the sign logo of Sardo's Magic Mansion that hangs in the shop window. Over the last month, I had been working on the project off & on, & now it's finally complete. Wanted to showcase both the prop itself, & the newly painted box.

The project was done using 3 layers of white primer (because the wood absorbs the paint like a sponge), all inexpensive acrylic paints, I freehanded the lettering & design placement while using that screenshot as reference. In the end, the box was the perfect dimensions for this replicated logo & I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Now the prop has a customized new home to be displayed in.

Ever-growing VHS tape replica collection

Wanted to showcase my shelf of cutom made VHS hard shell cases. Created by an independent artist on Etsy, these VHS tape cases are absolutely stunning in their uniformity. Pictured along with my OG 90s clamshell releases for size comparison, these slightly smaller "rental hard shells" are a perfect fit for a small collection shelf. They DO NOT come with episode tapes or blank tapes inside, that's for the proper collectors to track down in the wild. But for those of us old enough to have picked them up at our local video stores back in 1995, these new pieces are every bit what I imagine the line would've looked like if they had kept releasing. Some of my favorite episodes, with ever changing font colors for variety. These definitely won't be the last I pick up!

New Concept Art from a recent trailer

I'm really appreciating the art design of these characters. I'm hoping we can essentially select them as an initial archetype, then further customize them. For fans of Judy Nails & Pandora from Guitar Hero, we have "Contessa". Hoping they show off more soon, but I personally appreciate the combination of guitar hero & rock band style illustrations & character design.

Extreme Ghostbusters figure repaint

Have been wanting to do a complete repaint of Kylie Griffin's 1997 figure for a while now, just needed finer tipped brushes. I wanted to give her figure the classic orange shoulder paded chest plate from the cartoon, with her Cobalt blue hair, while at the same time, opting out of the boring grey & brown accessories & giving her purple ones instead. A goth Ghostbuster should be rocking the orange, purple & black halloween colors, after all! This was a fun project to do, as the original XGB figure's paint application & color choices were just too off for my liking. Redoing her dramatic gothic eye makeup was a chore, but I did the best with the sculpt they gave me. Sometimes, you have to work with what you got. I received the dvd for the complete series from Amazon around the same time. May have to end up getting the rest of the line to repaint along with Kylie. Extreme Ghostbusters deserves more love than it gets in the end, & am glad to do my part in reminding people that it's definitely worth their time.

Own What Shaped You!

A showcase of the 90s animated series & cartoons that helped shape my childhood. Some of these took 25+ years to finally be released, & stepping up to purchase them, bring them home & showing the powers in charge of making these releases that we as fans will gladly pick them up to own, instead of wanting "everything digital only". I know there are those that want minimalism to be the norm, & to esch their own, but I would never want to be without the ability to pick any of these titles & watch them at a moment's notice. No passwords, no wifi connection, no worries. These are all ready to go, whenever you feel like venturing back to your comfort shows. These are all from the 90s (with the exception of Real Ghostbusters)*, & they singlehandedly shaped my view of animation. Hoping more releases of shows that are still on my list finally get their proper deserved treatment over the next couple years. Whether you just discovered some of these gems recently, or they've been your favorites since childhood, you should definitely consider acquiring & building your own custom tailored collection that shaped you!
