Is this a liberal mindset?

I have been arguing with my co worker about his conservative mindset about gender roles. I explained to him that I am in an equal relationship, my partner and me have the same career, been together for 13 years going on 14 and we do not follow gender roles. This is what he wrote:
"Im very liberal with my wife. I taught her to drive. Teach her about how a car works. I allow her to work. I'm liberal in that way. But trust me. I am the boss of the house. As it should be. Men are better at just about everything. We need those roles. The roles exist for a reason. Society cant function well without them"
He insists that he has a liberal mindset. It does not sound like it, at all. Comes off as an insecure man. What do you guys think? Looking forward to reading opinions.
