[URGENT] Got IITM M.Tech TA (IIT BTech criteria) doubts about Accept & Freeze, withdrawal, and joining other IITs later

I received an M.Tech TA offer from IIT Madras through the IIT BTech criteria route (not regular GATE COAP admission)

I have a few doubts:

  1. If I choose “Accept & Freeze”, how much fee do I need to pay immediately?

  2. Can I later withdraw/cancel the IITM admission if I decide to join another institute?

  3. Will freezing IITM create any issue/clash with later joining another college or other counselling?

  4. Is the fee refundable? How much gets deducted?

  5. What is the actual withdrawal/refund procedure at IITM for IIT BTech criteria admissions?

IITM Industrial Mathematics & Scientific Computing (direct admission) vs IITB IEOR(results yet to declare) which would one to choose and why?

Hi everyone,

TL;DR: 2024 EE graduate from IIT (BHU) Varanasi confused between IITM Industrial Mathematics & Scientific Computing and IITB IEOR. Looking for insights on career options, workload, culture, and overall student life.

I’ve received a direct offer for MTech in Industrial Mathematics & Scientific Computing at IIT Madras (decision deadline is tomorrow).

I’ve also interviewed for MTech IEOR at IIT Bombay and am waiting for the results.

At the moment, I feel more inclined towards IITB because of the exposure, flexible learning environment, peer group, and the Mumbai ecosystem. But IITM also has a very strong academic reputation and seems excellent from a long-term career perspective.

I’m not overly placement-focused. I mainly want to learn something new, explore good opportunities, and also enjoy college life again without being under constant academic stress.

Would love honest opinions on:

- IITM IMSC vs IITB IEOR student life

- career flexibility and typical roles after graduation

Would really appreciate insights from current students/alumni. Thanks!

IITM Industrial Mathematics & Scientific Computing vs IITB IEOR - confused about career paths and campus life

Hi everyone,

TLDR: EE graduate from IIT (BHU) Varanasi confused between IITM Industrial Mathematics & Scientific Computing and IITB IEOR. Looking for advice on career options, campus life, workload, and placements.

I’m a 2024 graduate in Electrical Engineering from IIT (BHU) Varanasi.

I currently have admission offers/processes in two different directions and I’m genuinely confused about what would be the better choice for my future.

I already got direct offer into MTech in Industrial Mathematics and Scientific Computing at IITM. (Last date tomorrow to confirm)

I’ve also given the interview for MTech in IEOR (Industrial Engineering & Operations Research) at IITB and I’m waiting for the results.

Right now, I’m more inclined towards IITB for a few reasons:

better exposure/networking opportunities

courses seem more flexible and friendly

learning environment feels comparatively less rigid

Mumbai ecosystem and peer group appeal to me

But at the same time, IITM is obviously a top-tier institute with a very strong academic and research reputation. It would add great value to my career.

I’m trying to understand realistically:

How is student life in IITM IMSC vs IITB IEOR?

Which program gives better career flexibility in the long run?

What kind of roles do people usually end up in after these programs?

How difficult/math-heavy are these programs actually?

I'm not into placements, but want to experience college life again, and I'm into learning something new, keeping life a little less stressful.

If anyone studied in either department, how was the culture, professors, grading, and overall quality of life?

Quick question:

I've 20 mins left, ive applied Mtech in IIT Madras using my iit Btech eligibility..

Should I also apply using GATE score, through COAPS??

Ive scored 434.. 4.4k rank.. I'm SC female.. Gate paper EE

There are a few courses with cutoff at 450 and 500 score..

Main fear of not fully trusting my first application is, I fear the interview that is followed
