Here is me struggling to speak Hungarian, but not giving up because I’m too stubborn

I’d like to get some feedback on my current Hungarian. I’ve been studying it inconsistently for a cuple of years now, so it’s definitely more on the bad side of learners. I had ups and downs and now it is time to stop with that.

I decided to cut the crap and recorder myself and document how bad it is now compared to how good (hopefully) it will become. Give me your completely unbiased opinion. Constructive criticism, as well as destructive, is more than welcome.

Köszönöm mindenkinek!

Radi li neka printaona u Zagrebu?

Potaknut koleginim postom i preporukom, tražim 17,3 wanna-be “beta male” niskih muškaraca.

What video format do you prefer for learning your target language?

I was thinking about starting a YouTube channel teaching a language through TV series, cartoons, and movie clips. I’d like to get some general opinions on the format.

Just to clarify, I know everyone has their own style that suits them, including myself. In an ideal world, there would be a channel for each of my target languages that provides clips with subtitles and translation (although subtitles alone would also be enough). There are some channels that did this perfectly, while for some niche languages there are no channels like that at all.

The format I had in mind was the following:

  • the 1st part is a scene with the subtitles in the TL
  • the 2nd part is the same clip with the subtitles and the translation (maybe I’d use different colors to match exact words and expressions)
  • the 3rd part would be some examples with words/expressions from the clip
  • and the 4th part would be just the clip without any subtitles.

Maybe that’s too much, maybe 2nd and 3rd part would be just enough, and everything else would be overkill. Also, should I pay attention to the subtitle positioning, so the YouTube progress bar doesn’t cover them once a video is paused?

There is a YouTube channel that teaches Japanese through Peppa Pig episodes (@jappeppa8045) that did just enough, and some Chinese teaching channels are pretty good, although just watching the actual series is already quite sufficient, since they almost always include subtitles in Chinese.

What do y’all suggest? What format would you prefer in your target language?

Does changing an image's format affect an AI detector's ability to determine whether the image was AI-generated?

The question in the title.

I tried to run the same image with different formats and got different result. Also it also depends on whether image is uploaded on PC or phone, so I thought of asking about the stuff behind everything.

I know very little about this stuff and would appreciate if you go into details.

Thank you!

Poznajete li nekog s dva imena, a da su oba slična?

Nešto tipa: Ivo Ivan, Matija Mate, Franjo Fran, Stjepan Stipe, Antonio Ante, Mia Maja, Emanuela Ema, Katarina Kata, Nikolina Nika, Morena Morana itd.

Ili da su nešto različitija ali opet slična:

Leonarda Lea, Bruno Borna, Jakov Janko, Marko Matko, Hana Ana, Morena Lorena itd.

Što mislite o takvim kombinacijama?

Question for native Hungarian speakers: What would surprise you to hear from someone who is learning Hungarian? Are there some Hungarian expressions that would leave you in awe to hear from a non-native speaker?

For example, if I were speaking with someone that is learning Croatian, I would be stunned to hear them use aorist tense (like “Htjedoh reći” - I wanted to say, “Zaboravih” - I forgot, etc) which is a bit archaic and would sound fancy today, or some dialectalisms (kajkavian words like “kaj” - what, “zakaj” - why, “kak” - how, “tak” - like that/that way), even some idioms (like “Rugala se sova sjenici” - used to point out an irony in a situation, “trla baba lan da joj prođe dan” - used to show that someone’s job is pointless).

There are more that would genuinly impress me, but I don’t want this to become a post about Croatian language.

What would impress you to hear from a Hungarian learner?
