Barber recommendations?

Moved in last week and looking for a good barber new on the Upper West Side, ideally around 95th St. but willing to go a little higher or lower. Looking to spend around $40 max before tip, cheaper the better!

I have a pretty simple hairstyle short hair push over with a fade on the sides, but would love a shop with a good atmosphere and consistently quality cuts. If they take card, that would be a plus!

Any recommendations?

Gym recommendations around UWS close to C line or 95th

Just moved to the UWS around W 95th between Central Park West and Columbus. I’m an avid gym-goer (4-5 days/week), and I’m already going a little crazy after almost a week without one.

It seems like my closest options are Equinox or New York Sports Club. I’m planning to check out NYSC, but I’ve heard pretty terrible things and that it’s $100+/month, which doesn’t seem worth it for bad reviews. Anyone actually go there and have feedback? I definitely don’t want to pay Equinox prices.

I know a Pure Gym is opening right around the corner, but I can’t find any info on when it’s actually opening.

So I’m mainly looking for something in the interim or something long term if great.

I commute from the UWS to Penn Station for work, so I could also get off at a subway stop along the way and hit a gym that’s a convenient walk from the station.

Does anyone know of good gyms along that route, or gyms that offer month-to-month / short-term memberships that I could use for a few months until Pure Gym opens?

Would love any recommendations. I need to get back in the gym ASAP lol.

Spectrum vs Verizon 5G Home — no Fios option in my building, which would you pick?

Moving into a prewar walk-up on the UWS, seems Fios isn’t wired into my building — only Verizon 5G Home Internet is available as the Verizon option. So it’s basically:

**•	Verizon 5G Home** — $50-75 options with really good perks back at $75/month. Offers price lock till 2029/2031 depending on option.
**•	Spectrum Advantage** — $30-50 with 1 year price lock or $10/month increase for 3 year lock.

I keep hearing Verizon’s service quality is way better than Spectrum, but without actual Fios it’s just cellular internet, not fiber. Cheaper + hardwired (Spectrum) feels like the safer bet than pricier + wireless (Verizon), but I know Spectrum’s price jumps after year one & have heard bad things.

Anyone made this call in an older NYC building with no Fios? Regret going Spectrum, or was 5G Home actually solid?

Moving to W 95th (between Columbus & CPW) – looking for local recommendations!

Hey everyone,

I’m officially moving to W 95th between Columbus and Central Park West later this month and am excited to finally be joining the UWS.

I’m a 27M and have lived in NYC for the last five years, mostly on the LES/EV. Finally decided it was time to get my own place, and the commute to Penn Station made the UWS a great fit. As I am looking for a quieter area.

A few things I’m hoping to get recommendations on:

Gyms: It seems like there aren’t a ton in the immediate area. What do most people use? I’d rather not pay Equinox prices unless people genuinely think it’s worth it.

Favorite restaurants: Not looking for fancy places—more interested in neighborhood staples, great takeout, casual spots, brunch, pizza, sushi, sandwiches, etc.

Meeting people: I don’t drink, so I’m curious about good ways to meet people or get involved in the neighborhood. Love sports, the gym, being outside, open to new hobbies!

Laundry: My building doesn’t have laundry. Do most people use wash-and-fold, or are there laundromats nearby that people recommend?

Also, if you’ve lived around 95th for a while, I’d love to hear any random tips or things you wish you knew when you first moved to the neighborhood.

Thanks in advance, I will seriously be tracking all these suggestions so it's much appreciated.

Moving to Carnegie Hill / Yorkville — thoughts on the area + best gyms?

27M and likely moving to the Carnegie Hill / Yorkville area soon. Curious how people who live there like it, especially other people around my age.

Also looking for gym recommendations. ideally looking for a solid gym with good machines/free weights that doesn’t get insanely packed. What gyms in the area do people like?

Would also appreciate any general tips on the neighborhood — favorite restaurants, grocery stores, things to do, places to meet people, or anything else worth knowing before moving there. I like to spend time outside and being active when possible.

Thanks!

What to expect next - Gotham Point

I applied to Gotham Point in LIC about a month ago, I believe through StreetEasy housing and to my surprise I just received an email asking me to complete the attached packet and submit a bunch of statements documents etc.,

The email basically just said we received your application. Please fill out the attached packet and provide the materials. By X date.

I understand this is all normal, but just new to the process outside of housing connect so in this I guess re rental sense, does this likely mean I will be able to tour get the place, or just another formality / next step in a still big applicant pool?

Thanks for any insight, not fimilar if it wasn't right from the housing connect portal!

Manhattan → JC: how do you like it, and how’s the PATH to Penn?

Considering a move from Manhattan to Downtown JC (Grove St / Newport) for my first solo place 27M. For anyone who made the same jump:

- Any regrets, or better than expected?

- I work by Penn and I’m hybrid (~3x a week), so it’d be PATH to 33rd a few days a week — how does that commute actually feel over time / how is it weekends.

-I don't plan on getting a car, assume this would not be needed right?

I care about quiet, walkable, decent food options and good grocery stores & a place that feels good to come home to. Don’t drink, so nightlife isn’t a factor — just everyday livability.

Honest takes welcome, and thanks in advance!

Looking for Studio in the UWS for August

Hey all — looking for a studio apartment on the Upper West Side starting around August. I know it’s early, but figured I’d put feelers out now in case anyone has leads or recommendations.

Budget is around $3K/month max ideally, but I can flex a bit for the right place.

A bit about me as a tenant: clean and quiet, no pets, Easy, low-maintenance, and reliable.

If you know of anything coming available, have a building you’d recommend, or have any tips for the UWS search, please let me know (using StreetEasy). Thanks!

Looking for Lease Takeover — Hell’s Kitchen/UWS

Looking for a potential lease takeover in Hell’s Kitchen or the Upper West Side starting around August 1st (flexible on timing). Want to see what's out there. Budget is around $3,200 max, would like to be at 3k or a bit less. Ideally looking for a 12-month lease.

Of course rare, but huge plus if it’s rent stabilized. Open to studios or 1BRs, and flexible for the right place. Clean, single, employed professional with solid income/credit, no pets.

If anyone knows of anything coming up or is moving out soon, feel free to DM me — appreciate it!
