One thing about “Doug vs. the Klotzoid Zombies” really broke my heart
Hey Nickelodeon’s Doug fans, I was rewatching the second season of this show and noticed something that always bugged me.
I didn’t like that when Quailman and Quaildog were strapped to the wheel and were sent spinning by Dr. Klotzenstein who taunts them through, the hypnotized crowd chants "LOSER! LOSER!" (which was tear jerking and you know) though it suddenly fades away while Quailman concentrates (as the pair (him and Quaildog) are still spinning) and they set themselves free. But why?
And for the record, why does it feel like it could be aimed at Quailman?
Because this is Doug’s imagination, and Doug is anxious.
The chant “LOSER!” mirrors Doug’s biggest internal fear at that moment:
that everyone secretly sees HIM as a loser.
The episode uses the fantasy to amplify Doug’s insecurity.
But the story structure makes clear:
-The chant is part of the game show
-It’s possibly directed at the villain performing badly
-We thought that Quailman was the target (then again, maybe not!)
To me this moment had no deeper meaning. And to top it all off, I'm the only one of the Doug fans who believed that Quailman is a loser when he was stuck on the wheel! So now I'm stuck thinking that when Quailman said that he can't believe he "fell for the old glamour of being a television star trick" while he was sent spinning and everyone chants "LOSER!", I'm afraid he's stuck looking this way forever! HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN THE THICKET OF SOLITUDE TO AVOID ALL THE CHAOS (even after using the Quail whistle to free Quaildog from the TV's hypnotism)! Then none of this old glamour of being a television star trick would've happened! And aside from being a loser, Quailman's weak, and he's a coward! So is Doug too! If the "LOSER!" chant were truth, the fantasy would end with him still spinning, dizzy, and defeated! Then Dr. Klotzenstein would make history of winning over a Quailman fantasy for the very first time! If the chant continued through his victory, it would feel cruel. And I mean, REALLY CRUEL!
Then the lesson would be: “You got fooled, and that’s the end.”
My Reaction after Nicktoons Channel has become 24/7 SpongeBob again.
I was wishing for variety (both modern and classic Nicktoons to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the first three Nicktoon shows) on the Nicktoons channel all summer, but what did I get in return today instead?! NOTHING (BUT SPONGEBOB)!
NOOOOOO! I want variety! Here we go again!
