One day, a woman from a neighboring high-rise walked into the shop and said she wanted to sell her old Toyota. Mustafa immediately called me: "Ilyich, they're selling a 1982 Toyota here.
Would you like to go see it? Of course!" I took Borya with me, and we headed to the address. It turned out that
the Toyota Mark II had been walled up in an old summer kitchen back in the early 1990s. It could only be seen through a small window. The owner warned me: the wall could only be taken down after the purchase. So, I had to pay the money first, and then see the car. To inspect everything, someone skinny had to crawl inside. Before Borya did, I said, "Borya, it's simple: the car has to be clean, not rusty, with low mileage—basically, just the way I like it. If so, I'll buy it." A few minutes later, I heard, "Ilyich, everything's fine, the car's a good one!" That was enough for me. I gave the owner's daughter the money, and only then did we begin dismantling the wall. That's how we retrieved a Toyota Mark II that had been walled up inside the summer kitchen for many years. Its owner was a very meticulous man and took good care of his cars. I once managed to buy this extremely rare 1998 Infiniti Q45t in Ukraine. At the time, I knew practically nothing about this model. But I did know one thing: the car was in like-new condition, with only about 2,000 miles on the odometer. It was brought to Ukraine new back in 1998, after which it was stored in a heated garage for many years. The car belonged to the director of a large and well-known factory, but I'll tell you more about that and its entire history a little later.
I bought it specifically to drive. Modern cars don't really appeal to me—I love classics. But only classics in this condition: original, well-maintained, and practically new.
I actually started driving it this summer. It's a large and incredibly comfortable sedan, with a naturally aspirated V8, premium materials, excellent build quality, and a beautiful light pearlescent color. The car made a strong impression not only on me, but on my whole family as well; everyone absolutely loved it.
But after driving it for just a short time, I, as usual, began to feel sorry for it. I constantly thought about how it could get scratched or damaged on the street, and matching such a complex pearlescent shade would be practically impossible. So, soon, the Infiniti was moved to the parking lot and became a storage vehicle again.
So it sat there for a few more years. Then, next to it, another true time capsule appeared: a 2002 Volvo S80 Executive with just 500 kilometers on the odometer. A brand-new car. Then one day, a man came to me wanting to buy a Volvo. But when he saw the Infiniti parked next to it, the whole story took a completely different turn...
This car is a significant part of my personal story. I've had it for many years, but I've barely talked about it until now. I've accumulated a lot of such stories. Time passes, cars become a thing of the past, but the memories live on.

«I came across this car. It's an extremely rare Mercedes-Benz S 500 Pullman W220. A genuine factory Pullman.
The photo looks like a typical 220 S-Class. But step a little further and you realize it simply doesn't end there. It's over six meters long.
Of course, driving such a car around the city today is a rather peculiar experience. Parking lots, courtyards, U-turns... It's quite inconvenient to use it every day. But these cars were clearly not designed for grocery shopping.
In the back there is practically a separate office: leather, wood, electric seats, curtains, a refrigerator, separate climate control, a standard Nokia phone and a bunch of technology that in the early 2000s seemed practically science fiction.
Under the hood is a trusty old naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, and this example has only 78,776 kilometers (47,500 miles) on the odometer. And cars like this have a very interesting history. In the early 2000s, a Pullman cost an outrageous amount of money. It was a car on a completely different level, bought not by ordinary people but by magicians.
Fifteen years passed, and the situation changed completely. In 2015-2016, these cars were practically worthless compared to their original price. Who needed a huge, expensive-to-maintain, and inconveniently located old Mercedes back then?
But today it's already 2026, and everything is gradually turning around. A good, original, genuine factory Pullman is worth money again. Because there are still plenty of regular W220s, and such things are becoming increasingly rare.
It is huge, impractical and completely unnecessary for everyday life.
That's probably why I like him.
