What happened to the Armenian Catholic Eparchy of Lviv? Lviv used to be the spiritual capital of the Armenian Catholics of Eastern Europe, known to them as Leopolis
The Armenian Community of Lviv played an important role in the history of the city, especially in commerce and economy.
The community was so important that, when the Austrian House of Lords was created by Franz Joseph I in 1861, the Armenian Greek Catholic Bishop of Lviv was granted an ex-officio seat in it, alongside the Polish Roman Catholic Bishop of Lviv, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Bishop of Lviv and the Romanian Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Chernivtsi.
I know that the Soviets banned the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Armenian Greek Catholic Church, but, unlike the Ukrainian Greek Catholic community, which survived and flourishes today, the Armenian Greek Catholics of Lviv are just part of the history.
So, what happened to them? I am curious in what people of Lviv know about this, since they live there, but I'm open to all of the comments.
Is there somewhere I can go to donate some toys? (Plus some general questions about visiting)
Hello to lovely people of Lviv. I’m a 25 year old guy from the UK who has a spare half a week this week and I have taken it upon myself to travel to your lovely country and city for the first time. Everything is booked (transport, room etc.) and I have taken out insurance etc. so I believe I’m all set to go.
Someone from my area recently did one of the aid convoy drives and mentioned something about bringing toys to charities. I have a huge 85L bag and I’ve packed fairly light, so my plan is to go to a charity shop in Krakow tomorrow and stock up on stuff like that to bring over with me the following day (unfortunately I am taking the bus as I am a disorganised bastard and thus was too slow to book a train in good time). Is this something people do, and if so can people point me in the direction of somewhere I can drop them off to donate?
Further to this I was just wondering if people had any general suggestions of what to do whilst I’m there? Obviously there’s a lot to see but I’d like to make some sort of a ranking/interary in the meantime.
Like everyone lucky enough to come from a country that has not seen any significant conflict in my lifetime, I am also somewhat apprehensive about the security situation, mainly concerning whether shelters will actually be open or not (I’m aware some are in private houses). Is it safe to assume that a 1000 capacity shelter will be open or are capacity numbers not good to go off?
Finally, I presume I will be stopped by the security services at least once, as I am of fighting age. Will my British passport be sufficient evidence to show that I am not eligible to be conscripted or are there any other documents you would recommend keeping handy? My Ukrainian also isn’t great, but I feel like I can speak enough to get by in some situations without necessarily being able to hold conversation. I am multilingual (German and Spanish both studied to Uni/A Level) so I am aware that my Ukrainian isn’t going to get me very far, but I was also wondering if these people speak English generally, just in case? Assuming not, I will learn some phrases for this situation in the meantime.
Thank you all so much in advance. I’m really looking forward to this and I have heard nothing but good things about the city.
Weather in August
Hi friends! Is August a good time to visit? Or is it too hot for sightseeing? Thx.
Travelling to Ukraine as an Italo-ukranian
Hello everyone, i need your help.
Lately I've been wondering about travelling to Lviv wich is the city where my family lives, i have family there and i really missed the place but theres ONE problem. The war.
I've been to ukraine multiple times, always as a foreigner as i have an italian passport and citizenship.
But now its different, im 19 and ive been dying inside from the though of being kept inside the country as i dont even know the language.
In fact ive been born in italy, ive never lived/had a residence in ukraine, ive never had any type of documentation as a passport or as an ID card BUT when i was little it was still possible to add your children on your passport, thats what my mother did, and thats the ONLY connection i have with the country (beside my name wich is totally slavic)
Everybody tells me to calm down but i really cant.
Im supposed to travel with my mother and i dont know if they could stop me just for having the right to be a ukranian citizen, even if i never really formalised anything.
Looking to find the pub with Austro-Hungarian/Habsburg era theme
I remember visiting it about 8 years ago. It had photos of Franz Joseph, a map of Galicia, and maybe also a map of Austria-Hungary. Does this place still exist?
“Immortal Regiment” organizers tied to the Russian state are framing Russia’s aggression as justified, collecting aid for Russian forces and even involving children in pro‑war letters and trips to occupied Crimea. Their network also recruits participants for excavations in Crimea that amount to loot
Another question on traveling to Lviv...
Hi, everyone,
I know this kind of questions gets asked often, but there are several Redddit threads on the matter and I'm just looking for the most recent information on the topic... Apologies about this!
I am an EU citizen and need to travel to Lviv in the second half of June 2026 (mentioning this as I unfortunately have no experience with current travel to Ukraine; last time I went to visit was in 2019...).
I have already booked plane tickets to and from Warsaw and am considering travelling by train via Rava-Ruska as some people on Reddit indicate it's one of the best options.
I understand train tickets are only open for sale on the Ukrainian railway site 20 days in advance and from what I can see the price would be around 45 euros for one trip (so 90 in total).
However, I can see that I can already book the tickets on the Polish railway site for around 65 euros (130 total).
Should I wait for the sale to open or is there a real risk that if I do not manage to connect in the first few hours I might actually lose my chance booking the tickets?
Or should I consider Flixbus? I've read that this might be ok going to Ukraine, but returning to Poland could take a very long time on my way back.
I am a student so am currently trying to balance budget and time if that makes sense...
Thank you very much in advance for your help and have a lovely day!
Is Lviv safe to visit right now?
I’m planning a two day trip with my friends and I have some worries about our safety. Are drone strikes and bombardments a common thing? What would I know before I get there?
Any burrito places?
I dont mean a Schwarma, I mean a good ol burrito.
Some prick pasted this sticker in the middle of my windshield for literally no reason and I have no idea how to get it off
”Quiet” bar or pub?
Google translate. Excuse me for the wierd translation.

Are there still after-midnight clubs/raves in Lviv?
Might do a boys trip to Ukraine and we want to support the country by spending money there. Are there any EDM clubs/underground raves till the morning(after curfew hours)? legal or not.
Where to go for a day car trip near Lviv?
Fancy spending a day out with some friends somewhere near Lviv — maybe within a 100 km radius or so.
We’ve already done the castles before, so I’m wondering if there are any hidden gems nearby that might be worth checking out.
