Now to finish off Issue #2 ~ The Salt Pits of Lor-Cyn, a five level dungeon of creepy horrors, labs, and buried secrets. Just what do the Salt pits hide?

Balor- The Swallower of Cities. A Planet Eris Enigma.

The Great Warmachten. The Grinding Gear. Often referred to as a place to avoid at all costs Balor is not so much a place as a thing that is the size of a place. There is a thing a most terrible thing of corrupt sorcery and old-world tech, that swallows entire convoys of caravans and in whose belly entire cities and their occupants rot. Its gear filled mechanical gut is said to be larger than even the largest of the old-world cities of the Empire of Sparn, and the cities inhabitants are said to call out from within Balors colossal gullet as they slowly die or strive to live on the scraps of horse and human flesh devoured by the endless consumption of the Great Warmachten.

The Great Warmachten Balor is indeed big enough to accommodate people living inside it, and these unwelcome squatters live within the rear parts of the vast Warmachtens mechanical innards, dwelling in safe havens they have fashioned into crude fleshy dwellings. They are not alone. So vast is Balors inner regions that the undead remains of citizens who have lived and died here — also dwell within him.

Perhaps the old gods of Sparn alone knew what these things are or where they come from, bot one thing is certain: Where the great Warmachten Balor goes, even the most powerful fiends know fear. The Warmachten Balor is a colossal mechanical creature with rustic gaping jaws; huge, pincerlike claws; an armored carapace of living brass; and a single, green, malevolent eye. Those that have encountered Balor and lived to tell about it claim that the great Warmachtens lower quarters are serpentine or wormlike, and that its not a native of this plane. The Mystic Plutarchy claim that Balor was created in the Nirvanic Wastes before he consumed them.

Balors sole interest appears to be feeding on any city, settlement or convoy unlucky enough to cross its path. No one has managed to communicate with the Warmachten and lived to tell the tale, though there are a string of cults that have risen in power that continue to attempt to do so, worshipping Balor as a mechanical god. Balor occasionally grants them sentient armour and weapons from previous aeons. The more rare armour pieces have the ability to forcibly graft themselves onto nearby creatures thus awakening them unto profound depths of intelligence. The Hounds of Droma are just such a case. Once used by Wasteland Salvagers to sniff our mechanical detritus. Now the humans serve as slave to their awakened masters.

Caslte Blacksteel. My ode to Castle Blackmoor & Tonisborg

Just finished playing the 2nd level of my Castle Blacksteel in our Reclamation of the Autumn Lands game we have been playing since the start of the new year. An ode to Castle Blackmoor & Tonisborg. The included pic provides a taste of what the Castle looks like.

*Just noticed the typo in the post title. Been a very long day, please excuse the mistake. I don't know how to fix it*

Chronicling my road to Blackmoor

Hey yall. I started a little chronicle of how I am building and running my own version of Blackmoor. It's more of an evolving documentation of my process and sources used along the way.

Other than adding Palace of the Vampire Queen as a dungeon that can be played, I will for the most part remain as true to this version of the map as possible.

I welcome any feedback or insights. I am no scholar, just a recent armchair Blackmoor enthusiast wanting to run some Blackmoor. Oh yeah and I'm running it for my boy and his buddies, and a few family members. Kitchen Table Blackmoor! You can find it here:

A big shout out to Griff Morgan for making the Secrets of Blackmoor and other works. These have set me on the road to Blackmoor.

Prepping Castle Blackmoor

The boys are once angain about to enter the Palace of the Vampire Queen which I have situated near the village of Blackmoor and have made some changes to. First entry into the Palace resulted in a TPK.

I have also placed a haunted manor on the way to Castle Blackmoor while placing the Castle a bit further from the village.

A look at pre-74 OD&D Twin Cities play-test gaming. Tonisborg & Dragons Beyond.

I've fallen down the OD&D rabbit hole, and now its the pre-OD&D rabbit hole. And it has changed my games completely. All for the best. I share here a few takeaways from my initial quick skim of Dragons Beyond. Next will be Tonisborg.

Castle Blackmoor here we come!

Going to be venturing into Castle Blackmoor via (FFC) to dispose of an ancient relic. Reading Tonisborg has me pumped to run it.

Out of 1d6 Adventure Seeds we rolled this one.

  • The local magic-user has heard legends that a gateway between worlds exists in the bowels of the Castles dungeons. He is paying a small fortune to anyone who can locate the portal and determine its function. The scholar seeks to dispose of something (a cursed magical artefact) and wants it thrown into the portal to banish it to another world before it re-awakens.

***UPDATE***

Just realised I forgot to include the link to the full post. You can find a longer version here:

I just came across this book for 3.5 D&D and was wondering if it’s any good. The reviews don’t seem to be very positive. Just wondering if anybody here has it or has used it?

Thank you.

Hello everyone, I am in the midst of putting together a little zine for my son and his gang of miss-fits and while I have the starting town, some dungeons, the beginnings of a megadungeon I was wondering if anybody could point me in the direction of a classic module or product that has a great example of faction play that isn't to overly complicated it's for my son and his Old-School at School D&D club. They run White Box but are incorporating some OD&D materials into their game now.

Factions are the one area I'm not very good at and they tend to be quite lacking in our game so far.

much obliged everyone!

GREAT DEMIURGES/GODS OF THE OLD WORLD.

  • BALOR: Swallower of cities. (N)
  • CZERNOBOG: The Black God. (C)
  • BAHUMUT: (L)
  • ULTOS/COZMOS: ?
  • RUST: The devourer of kin. (L)
  • TIAMAT: This Warmachten appears as an enormous Wyyrm with five heads, each the colour of one of the Chaos dragon types (white, black, green, blue, and red), which by no coincidence align with the current heraldry of the leading prominent Duchies. (C)
  • SHIVA: ?
  • KONGULA: The Brass Weaver of fates (L)
  • XFSS BEAGLE: A chaotic Lich, built from the mechanical wreckage of the FSS Beagle ~ exploration vessel of the ancients. Necromantic receptacle and current phylactery of Stephen The Rock.
  • GRIMLOCK: This immense saurian beast, a relic of the Golem Wars, is the greatest of any known creatures of this type, for it has cults and shamans that are starting to reach beyond the Scavengers Deep. Fortunately, its influence seems limited to that area, and seemingly slow in spread, perhaps because the cults operations are conducted deeply underground.

This is what the Corporation the PC's work for have been digging up from below the sands of the Autumn Lands. The PC's have been delving in search or reactor core pieces which the company needs to bring it back online.

Stated as Titan.

  • Origins: Introduced in the Greyhawk supplement as an extension of the giant family, quickly evolving from simple "super giants" to beings with divine attributes.
