Emergency Cerclage success story.
Hey everyone! I wanted to come on here and share my story of my emergency cerclage. I remember looking through posts trying to find situations like mine to give me hope and I would love to do the same for someone else.
My pregnancy was fairly normal (minus a couple weeks of bleeding due to a subchorionic hematoma early on) until my anatomy scan. During the scan we saw my cervix was 15mm. Since this is my first pregnancy my OB wanted to monitor for a week.
At 21 weeks we saw my cervix was 14mm. I pushed for the cerclage. My OB hesitantly agreed. I was scheduled for 22 weeks 1 day.
At 22 weeks she called me and told me she did not want to do the cerclage, as it was likely just my anatomy since we saw no shortening between 20 and 21 weeks. She scheduled me for another ultrasound instead at a neighboring hospital.
At this scan at 22 weeks 1 day my cervix had shortened to 5mm. There was severe u shaped funneling and I was admitted for an emergency cerclage. Somehow my cervix was still closed and the surgeon on call managed to grab a decent amount of cervix to stitch.
I had weekly scans at 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 weeks. My cervix fluctuates between 12 and 15 mm with funneling to the stitch and I graduated to biweekly scans at 30, 32 and 34 weeks.
At 36 weeks the cerclage was removed, and at 38 and 39 weeks I had to have membrane sweeps as my baby was 90th percentile.
I went into labour at 39 weeks and my son was born 39 weeks 1 day at a whopping 9lb 10oz. I did have a traumatic birth, totally unrelated to the cerclage but I am here with my 9 day old son. I laid awake crying for months anticipating the worst, but he's here.
I hope this helps someone who is scared like I was.
