Give me the truth…

I love cruising (Princess, celebrity, MSC, carnival) and enjoy Disneyland/disney world though I would never be labeled a “Disney adult”. For those who have been on a Disney cruise—how was it? me imaging the adult to kids ratio and no matter how good the kids are they will be kids—the crying, the tantrums. Doesn’t feel relaxing to me. I heard the shows are great but is it really worth it? I want to hear from people who’ve done Disney cruise as well as other cruise lines. Friends have asked me to join them and I have declined but I wonder if I am just making assumptions. My kids are older 10 & 12 and boys and not into Disney characters

Front entry door

Need help deciding front door. Not sure if this is the best sub to post this. Debating between French doors or pivot door. My thinking is easier to move furnitures and looks better than standard door size.

Anyone with a pivot door—do you love it? Or do you hate it?

Did you buy your door locally or got it shipped? Any recommendations?

Cash for new custom construction

So we are debating between construction loan for new build vs paying cash. We bought the land with cash so could use that to get construction loan and then pay the house off when build is completed. VS paying GC/sub cash but would use a title company to handle the inspection and payment and Lien release. Our builder estimated 9 months to a year for the build.

Those of you who had the cash but chose to get a loan why? Do you think it was the right move? Those who paid cash, what was that process like?

Give me the truth—those who owner built

We’re considering owner building. We bought a land lot last month, it’s just 5 min from our current house so we can keep a close eye on the building process. We’re working on the layout and design right now. I have the time to manage the project. We also have a builder friend (doesn’t do custom build) who has offered to be a consultant. We have been talking to a builder as well and really like him. A friend is also building with him. Her mom just completed a build with him and super happy with the build. He is quoting 9 months to a year to build. We’re not in a rush since we currently own our house (no mortgage).

We are looking at building 4500 sq ft above grade (level 1 & 2) with a basement as well. It’s partly big bc of 2 master bedroom since I am planning for my parents to live with us when they can’t live on their own anymore (multi-generational home). So not a small project (though I hope optimize and reduce the square footage some, still in the planning phase). We don’t have any construction experience, but I have remodeled our home and been my own GC.

Two main reason why we want to owner build 1)opportunity to learn and potentially get into home building business 2) potentially save money

I want to hear from anyone who has owner built. Were you able to successfully complete the build or did you end up having to hire a GC? Would you owner build if it was this big of a build? I want to hear the successful story as well and those who failed and why? Thanks

Spring Marathon

Ran 26.2 miles today while playing Pokémon go. Hatched 28 eggs—could have done more but it was challenging to run while taking phone out to incubate eggs. Finally completed the 100 km requirement to level up to level 78
