Hi all, I'm in the process of writing an in-depth (as in-depth as I can, at least) history of Cloudsdale, linking every canon bit of information about it into a cohesive history, with a lot of creative speculation linking it. For this, I need to get some general Equestria-history-based stuff straight.
How did the princesses actually ascend to the throne?

The Journal of the Two Sisters (2014) claims they were approached by Star Swirl not long after the official founding of Equestria. However S4E2 from the previous year says they came to power after sealing Discord in stone and freeing an already-existing state of Equestria from his reign of chaos.

Of course, the episodes take precedence over other secondary-canon like the Journal, which is notorious for its retcons, but I've been wondering, is there a world in which both hold true?

Here's how I try to reconcile the two:
It's likely that the Princesses had already been established as the rightful rulers of Equestria before Discord came along, but only with his overthrowal were they finally completely independently in power.
My theory is that Star Swirl was the only pony powerful enough to pose a threat to Discord. So after Star Swirl disappears along with the other Pillars and Stygian, and the Sisters being very newly crowned, Discord sees no more obstacles to just taking power. And so he does, and its clear with Discord's chaos rule the regular movement of the sun and moon become obsolete, so the Sisters lose some of their power. But only after a decent amount of time did they harness the Elements of Harmony to seal him away despite not having the powers of the Sun and Moon. Thus they return to their rightful places on the throne(s).

That's my speculation at least, but I know for a fact I'm missing a few important details. Further info/feedback/lore will be appreciated! :)

She misses her sister...

I saw there was a Russia-pony and so decided to reclaim her for the peace-loving peoples.

I myself am ethnically Russian though I've been raised and live elsewhere, so I can freely say things like this. I just want this nightmare to end so we can help our Ukrainian brothers and sisters rebuild from the harm our country has done...

I also have a proposal: Since the Russia-pony has a name, Marussia (Маруся) but the Ukraine-Pony is yet unnamed, I propose we name her 'Sonyasha', based on the Ukrainian word for sunflowers (соняшник), the national flower of Ukraine, and it's an affectionate east Slavic name

Could this possibly be a Minecraft reference? (S4E3 Castle mane-ia)

The colouring of this dragon seems to match almost perfectly with that of the Ender Dragon. The episode's release seems to generally coincide with the tail-end (no pun intended) of Minecraft's popularity boom.

That and it wouldn't be entirely out of place for an episode already packed with pop culture references and whose name is literally a pun on a video game title.

But there is no mention of this anywhere, and I'm sure there are a bajillion more purple-eyed dragons out there that this could be referencing. Or maybe the animators just felt like making the eye purple for no reason in particular. Still it feels like a Minecraft reference if you ask me...
