Holy Stone fly away

My son has (had) an old Holy Stone drone we got years ago--HS110 I think--and it has been, for lack of a better term, weird for a while. We learned that if you only use the provided controller, instead of a phone, it would follow your commands 90% of the time (an improvement to maybe 50% of the time if the phone was also attached). But lately it wasn't accepting inputs and would do things on its own accord. It's cheap, I didn't expect DJI level of software (I use a DJI Mini 3 for work recon), so we just had fun and enjoyed its random acts of disobedience. But last night, it left us. Maybe it decided to go to a farm upstate or something. My son was flying it and he said it's not listening to me...and he was right. The drone went up to about 100 feet and then started flying away, slowly. It went past the field beyond our property and we were trying to get it to land (I even opened the phone app) but it had its own mission. It kept flying farther and farther away and we lost sight as it crested a small hill. Hopefully it's in a better place now.

So we need another [budget] drone (under $200). I can't let him fly my work drone, so I was wondering if any newer Holy Stone drones are decent and better at not abandoning their pilots?

Field biologist that can't find the right boots...

I've tried over a dozen boots and can't find one that works. Recently, I was wearing the Oboz Bridger wide size, but this summer they started squishing my feet over even short hikes (2 miles) and my feet were pained and sore after a recent 12 mile hike (for reference, my "hikes" are work related where I do not have trails and can range from traversing hilly sagebrush to mountain meadows where I look for wildlife and/or wetlands where I have to dig soil pits, so I need a tough enough shoe to handle digging). My favorite ever pair were Keen Durand I that fit well and were tough enough. Here are what I've tried:

  1. Keen Durand I -- if this was still available, I wouldn't be here
  2. Keen Durand ii -- they shrunk the toe box and made the forefoot tighter, so no thanks
  3. Keen Targhee iv -- not sure if it was the midsole or what, but I could feel more of the rocks and it made me feet very sore
  4. Oboz Bridger -- tough and comfortable at first but even go half size up and to wide, toe box kept squishing my toes
  5. Merrell Moab 3 -- tried them on and fit fine, but didn't seem to have support and felt sort of cheap, I don't know how to explain it but I could tell they wouldn't work for me
  6. Salomon X Ultra 5, wide -- just way too narrow
  7. Salomon Quest -- too narrow
  8. Asolo--same thing, too narrow
  9. La sportiva Raptor -- too narrow
  10. Hoka Kaha -- very comfortable, but a little odd; I don't think I could dig soil pits with these for long
  11. Danner Mountain 600 -- these fit well, were comfortable, and the EE model had room for my toes. But are these a legit boot or just a fashion statement that can handle a paved trail at a national park??

Apparently I have wide, sensitive feet...The only other shoes I can really think of are the Lowa Renegade, but they seem a bit burly and uncomfortable--but I've never tried them on. Any other reasonable options I should consider?

[S] [USA-ID] Nikon 40mm f2, 18-35 f3.5-5.6 G lenses

Timestamp

40mm f2 z mount lens: Very good condition 40mm f2 lens. I don't have any Z cameras right now, so selling this. Comes with box, front and rear caps that came with lens (note the rear cap is a cheap clear one). No issues, glass and body are clean (I suppose there's some wear on rear mount from putting lens on and taking it off camera), worked perfectly on my z5 ii I used to have. $160.

18-35 f3.5-5.6 G ED F mount lens: Good condition Nikon 18-35 f3.5-5.6 G ED lens. Lens glass is very clean, no marks I can see. Exterior gold lettering on body is fading some, as seen in photos. Bought this second hand some years ago, and used it maybe 10 times indoors for wide angle video. I currently only have DX Nikon DSLR, so this doesn't get used at all. Comes with OEM box front and rear caps (front cap letters also fading) and lens hood. $150.

Buyer pays shipping and I cover paypal fees.

[S] [USA-ID] Fujifilm X100F

Timestamp

Very good condition Fuji X100F. Everything works as it should--no issues. Glass, EVF/OVF, and LCD all clean. Body is very clean too and free of marks, except for the bottom plate and one small mark on back left, near the bottom. I'm 2nd owner; shutter count shows 8600 but it's more like 5000 or so (Fuji shutter count is notoriously inaccurate). Comes with original lens cap, lens hood with filter attachments, batteries (one OEM, one 3rd party) and charger. I thought I'd try it out, but I miss having a zoom or different lenses to attach (maybe an x-e4 would be better for me).

$910 is price all in, assuming USPS ground shipping to CONUS and doesn't cost extra for some reason.

24mm f2.8 G lens came with the camera in a bundle. Great little lens--the aperture ring is nice too. Glass is clean and no wear on lens body. Comes with Sony front cap and generic rear cap. No box. $400.

Prices are all in, paypal fees and shipping (assuming reasonable location and cost).

Fireworks with OM-1 and 12-60 3.5-5.6

First time I’ve ever shot fireworks. These were quite distant so I had to crop a lot. The 12-60 kit lens did pretty good…the only other lenses I have are the 60mm macro and 300 f4 so the kit lens got called up. Used live composite for the first time. The hardest part was manually focusing. Fun experiment!

Father’s Day Photos—walk in the park with the OM-1 and 300mm

My first outing outside my backyard with the new to me OM-1 and 300mm lens. I forgot my 1.4tc so had to crop more than I wanted. Not bad though. Also processed with my new capture one subscription (found out they do a student discount).

Preying mantis juvenile—with OM-1 and 60mm macro

Found this juvenile mantis outside. Maybe 1.25 inches long. He was quite active but I managed to get this in camera stack.

[S] [USA-ID] Sony A6000, 16-35 f4 G, 16-50, 55-210 lenses

Timestamp photos

Wanted to try out a small Sony set up, but not my cup of tea.

Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 G lens: Got this in part of a bundle. Good, small, light, sharp lens. Comes with front/rear caps and a lens bag. Lens body in good condition. Lens in mostly good condition, but it does have a mark on the front element. I couldn't get it to show in images taken with the camera. See the lens photos I provided that shows the mark. Normally, this lens sells for $800+ used, so I'll discount to $625. Buyer pays shipping.

Sony a6000 with kit lenses (16-50 and 55-210). Camera in pretty good condition for age, lenses also in good condition with no obvious wear; glass is clean. Comes with front/rear caps and body cap, camera bag, two 3rd party batteries and charger. $500. Buyer pays shipping.

[S] [USA-ID] Olympus E-M1 iii with grip

Timestamp here

Selling my excellent condition E-M1 iii with the battery grip. Comes with box, charger, battery, body cap, and battery grip. I'm second owner and the camera works great--no issues at all. Very clean exterior, LCD and EVF in good shape (screen protector does show mark, but it's a screen protector...). Shutter count is exactly 3,000 (and 90% macro), and no I didn't plan it that way. Just moving to OM-1, so don't need this (though I might trade for a fuji camera or Z50 ii). Battery grip works well too, only used a few times. $650

I'll cover fees, buyer pays shipping.

Oriole d500 + 200-400 f4

I have a d500 sitting in the closet and someone recently traded me a 200-400 f4 VR I lens for $200. He said the AF didn’t work right so I figured I’d try it out—so far it works fine. It’s a big, heavy lens that makes the 200-500 look moderately sized (200-400 weighs 2 lbs more and is 4 inches longer though it does have internal zoom). It’s a tripod lens as I can only handhold it for a short time. On a gimbal and a tripod, it’s honestly kind of fun. And the photos aren’t bad either. Of course part of the fun is using what used to be a $6000 lens that I got for so cheap. Here are a couple photos of a bullock’s oriole that’s been exploring my backyard.

[S] [USA-ID] Nikon Z5 ii and 500mm f5.6 PF lens

Timestamp and photos here

Camera: Selling my excellent condition Nikon Z5 ii. Works perfectly and no marks I can see. Shutter count only 2306. EVF and LCD clean. Comes with original box, body cap, and battery. Buyer pays shipping. $1250

Lens: Selling my excellent condition 500mm f5.6 PF lens. Sad to let this one go, but need the money to get something else. Glass is clean, body clean, everything works perfectly. Comes with OEM box, lens hood, front and rear caps, and camo skin (currently removed in photos). Works great on the Z5 ii and D500 I own. But...
Several weeks ago I noticed it wasn't focusing on distant objects very well, a bit blurry. I sent it in to Nikon for repair, and got it fixed--the issue was a faulty encoder unit. They fixed that, then adjusted, cleaned, tightened, and checked a bunch of things. I got it back a week ago and its cleaner and works better than the day I bought it (used). There is the repair warranty from Nikon, and this lens will work for many years now that Nikon looked everything over. I'll include paperwork for the buyer, and can show images to interested parties. Buyer pays shipping. $1600

Camera set up wildlife and macro

Need help picking which camera set up to do for wildlife and macro. I like having two cameras (mirrorless) and would prefer one to be full frame but my budget may not allow that.

I currently shoot with a Z5 ii and 500mm f5.6 PF lens for wildlife and an Olympus E-M1 Mark iii with the 60mm f2.8 for macro. I also have a 24-70 and 40mm f2 for the Nikon. Unfortunately, my 500mm lens needs a repair and I don’t have money at the moment to fix it and keep the same setup. So I can get it repaired and then sell it, hopefully netting $900 after paying the repair bill.

Ignoring the standard zoom and prime lenses, my wildlife/macro options with selling/trading and remaining in budget are:

Recently my 500mm PF lens will not autofocus on distant subjects. It will focus fine within 200 feet I’d say, maybe 300, but at longer distances it can’t focus. I hear and see the AF motor start to focus on a distant tree, for example, but then it stops short and the tree won’t be in focus. I also tried other objects with high contrast, a bench, building, etc. I can manually focus on the distant object, but autofocus won’t bring it into focus. Strangely, with bird detection on, the camera will track the birds even though they are semi-blurry blobs going across the sky.

I checked all settings both on lens and in camera and nothing stood out that could cause this issue. I cleaned contacted on lens, camera, and ftz adapter. I tried the lens on both my Z5 ii and D500 and it behaved the same way.

Anyone have any ideas about what’s wrong?
