It's 'Post your M43 photo' Thursday! Come share your best work with the community!

You've spent an entire week with your Micro Four-Thirds camera, documenting the world as it is, how it was, or how you think it should be. It's time to show us those photos and bask in the glory that only a weekly photo thread can bring!

Rules:

  1. The photo must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may only post one photo per week. Pick only your best work and show it off!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about the camera, the lens and the environment as possible. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M1 w/ Panasonic 25mm f/1.8 lens @ 25mm f/2.0 ISO100 Time: 5:40PM in Los Angeles, California" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. Above all, be respectful. There's a big difference between the following comments: "OMG THAT PHOTO IS HORRIBLE" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven".

L10 size vs Pen F

I found this quite interesting. I've seen a lot of people say the L10 is much too big, but it's pretty much the same size as a Pen F which is most people's "holy grail" m43 camera. It sticks out less than the 17mm lens too.

Then vs the original Lx100 and then the GX8

Just thought I'd share!

So much stuff. So little bag.

Oly E-M10 IV

OM 40-150 zoom

OM 14-42 zoom

7artisans 25mm 1.8

Pergear 10mm 5.6 fixed fisheye

Brightin Star 90mm 2.8 2:1 macro (big fella)

Spare battery, cleaning stuff, filter pouch. There's also a SD to USB /USBC adapter in the bag. Small banana for scale.

All in a tiny shoulder bag. This is why I love M43. If you'd have told me I could have fitted all of this in anything less than a sizeable rucksack in my DSLR days I'd have slapped your pretty face.

Pics from Guatemala on EM10 iii

Was looking for a first 'proper' camera for a trip to Guatemala (I've only messed around with some old digis prior to this but love taking pictures), and I found a lightly used OMD EM10 iii + 14-42 kit lens for 500 CAD. Here are some pictures I took on the trip, I'm super happy with it just gotta learn more about the actual "theory" of photography. Super open to feedback if you have any!

Help choosing a lens

Hiya, I’m a casual photographer and switched to the em-1 mk 2 a few months ago. I’m looking for a zoom telephoto lens that I’ll be able to use for wildlife and aircraft photography and narrowed it down to these 2, my budget being ~£700 as the upper limit.
Does anyone have personal experience with either of these lenses that they could share or help me decide which to get?

EDIT: thanks for the responses, I think I’ll go with the Olympus lens👍

Wonderful OM-3 experience with only a slight gripe.

TLDR: i love this camera 😃

Hey all! For those who might remember briefly, I posted about receiving the OM-3 as a Christmas present.

Since then, I've had a wonderful time with the camera. It's quite a small package, and I find myself surprised often with how powerful it truly is. I don't shoot fast-moving subjects often, so I haven't really gotten into the pro-capture modes, but I find that the color and dynamic range are more than plenty for what I've used it for.

Most impressive are its low-light chops. Yes, I find that I have to often crank my settings to the extreme to get a shot in those conditions, but I find that I receive usable or fixable results 90% of the time, and faster glass does help with that anyways. DXO Photolab 9 works its wonders with noise reduction.

Battery life is incredible and I debated a long time before I bought the official OM System BLX-1 dual charger, and I'll explain why in a bit. But I sometimes went a week or so without needing a charge!

My goofy dog, Dr. Bartolo. OM-3 w/ M.Zuiko 20mm f1.4 Pro @ 1/800s, f6.3, ISO200

Probably not the best photo but impressive low-light demonstration! OM-3 w/ M.Zuiko 20mm f1.4 Pro @ 1/160s, f1.4, ISO10000

Anyone who says MFT can't do bokeh is proven wrong! OM-3 w/ M.Zuiko 20mm f1.4 Pro @ 1/8000s, f2.8, ISO320

Can you tell I really like the 20mm f1.4 Pro? 😅

Probably needs to be a touch cooler on the white balance but TASTY - OM-3 w/ 25mm f.18 II @ 1/100s, f4, ISO12800

I remember one of y'all commented wondering about my camera balance between my Nikon Z6III and my OM-3. I actually ended up selling my Z6III + Z mount lens collection in favor of funding more MFT lenses! For myself, I found Z series lenses to be just a bit too heavy and bulky for myself, and I didn't really need the raw power of the Z6III.

I only really have one gripe with the OM-3. What is going on with the horrible sealing on the port doors?? These flimsy and ill-fitting rubber pieces don't have any tactile feedback to tell me when I've sealed them correctly, and I have to usually press pretty darn hard to get them to stay in. In fact, it's become such an annoyance that I have resorted to never using the USB C port and instead pulling the battery out for a charge and the SD card out for file transfer.

Anyhow as the title says, that's only a slight gripe. Realistically, it doesn't really change my life too much other than making me spend money on a charger, because I preferred a fast UHS-II card reader to USB C before anyways.

I love this "little" camera a lot, and I anticipate bringing it everywhere I go. I even got this little handle from Amazon that makes the grip so much easier with some of the larger and heavier lenses.

Feel free to AMA about this camera and my experience with it.

Optics thoughts

Hello, fellow M43 friends!

Since I got into photography about a year ago, I’ve been trying to do two things: 1. Take good pictures, and 2. Understand the physics of focal length, depth of field, etc.

Speaking of focal length, something has been scratching my brain for a while now. A phrase that always comes up is: "In M43, you simply multiply the focal length by 2 to get its Full Frame equivalent."

Is this entirely true? I think it’s true in terms of framing (how much of the subject fills the sensor), but not when it comes to how much of the background is visible. I tried sketching what I recall from grad school. If our subject is "A" and the background is an arrow, it seems like the background is much more compressed on the FF sensor (meaning more of the background appears), even though "A" takes up roughly 25% of the height in both images.

So is that all garbage because I am missing a lot of what is a camera lens and I just can't summarize it to a simple lens or is there something true about it ?

Thanks for the physics help y'all !

100-400 Panaleica MK1 Broken Bayonet

Has anyone had this happen to them? I take care of my gear like a baby, i was carrying it around in my backpack attached to me g9ii fully attached and tightened down to the backpack inside and i go to take it out, seems fine as i dont realise the broken bayonet, i put it on my gimbal head, and it just wobbles. 1 broken screw on the lens.

This is all really confusing, has this happened to anyone? Any ideas what to do?

Summer every day carry

New to more standard style photography and wanted something that’s light to carry day to day and didn’t break the bank too much.

Ended up settling on a dirt cheap marketplace epl1 then upgraded the kit lens to the ttartisan 25mm
