e1x - Configuration Persistence & Current State

I just picked up an e1x after my pre-amp failed on me, needed something quick, and already had Dante in my system.

After figuring out kernel extension BS (why isn't there a DriverKit implementation in 2026?) I was able to get UA Connect & UAD Console setup. But now I'm running into some issues with the GUI in UAD Console, and configuration persistence of the e1x itself.

Every time I open UAD Console the e1x reports as 10dB, despite me setting it to 24dB. Is there really no way to view the current state of the e1x?

Application that allows for opening a specific app on a specific screen at a specific size/location.

I've got an M3 Ultra Mac Studio connected to 7 displays. Is there an application out there that will let me configure what app opens on what display at what location/size? Going back and forth with Claude had me looking at Moom, but it seemed like it could only save a layout for all my windows/displays at once? I'd really like something that lets me configure this per-app.

I've done a lot of work to make window management easier to manage using Hammerspoon, but don't really want to micro manage this function with Lua. I'm not looking for something that moves a window/app to a specific display via a hotkey, I already have that with Hammerspoon. I'd like something completed automated, trigged at the time that I open the app.

Pitfalls With Proton Authenticator's New iCloud Backup Mechanism

When I opened Proton Authenticator on macOS today I got a message stating the following:

>Your 2FA codes are safe. Due to reliability issues with Apple's iCloud, we've switched to the new backup ...

There's been no public announcement or documentation on the new process, which is significantly more hands on.

  1. You have to provide a password to encrypt the backup.
  2. You have to choose a location on your device to place the backup, which leaves a lot of room for error. The intention is to choose an online drive service, I'm testing with iCloud Drive.
  3. "Restoring from a backup" is no longer automatic. With the previous iCloud "backup" option, codes would sync automatically between devices. Proton even referred to this functionality as "sync" as opposed to "backup" in their FAQ.
  4. Restoring from a backup on first install requires different steps from before.
  5. When pointing multiple devices to the same location, each device appends its on-device codes to the backup file, so no one device overwrites the entire backup file.
  6. When you want to delete a code from Proton Authenticator you now have to delete said code on all devices pointing to the same backup location. If you only delete the code on one of many devices, it'll be restored the next time you restore from backup.

IMO this new backup functionality is clunky, prone to user error, and overall just requires quite a bit more effort to manage. Especially when you're using Proton Authenticator on many Apple devices. It's troubling that Proton made this change with little to no explanation, and absolutely zero instructions as to how the new process functions. As far as I can tell this change took place 16 days ago, and there's still almost zero information from Proton.
