Introducing Proton Pass for AI Agents: Give Automations the Access They Need (and Nothing More)

Introducing Proton Pass for AI Agents: Give Automations the Access They Need (and Nothing More)

AI agents can save you tons of time by automating repetitive tasks. But there's a catch: to actually be useful, they often need access to sensitive information like passwords and API keys. That's where security gets tricky.

Today we're launching access tokens for AI agents in Proton Pass . This gives you granular control over what credentials agents can access with full visibility of when they use them.

How It Works

Pass for AI Agents

Create access tokens in seconds. Go to your Proton Pass settings and generate secure tokens specifically designed for AI agents. You can set these up and start deploying automations in minutes.

Grant only what's needed. Instead of handing over your master password or full credentials, agents get access to the vault(s) that you enable them to access. You can also set an expiration for each token, from one hour to one year, after which it can no longer be used.

You can also know what they're doing. Every time an agent needs credentials, it has to tell you why, so you stay in the loop on what they’re up to.

Access tokens are included with no additional cost on:

  • Pass Plus
  • Proton Unlimited
  • Pass Family
  • Pass Professional
  • Proton Workspace

Agentic AI doesn't have to come at the cost of your security. Now you can get the productivity boost you need while keeping complete control over your sensitive data.

Stay safe,
The Proton Team

Quick settings shortcut (android)

I'd like to share a tip that has been very helpful for me. Using the apps Quikshort or Tile Shortcuts, both available in google play store, you can create a custom shortcut on top navigation bar to access quickly to proton pass.

Native MacOS Authenticator App?

Will there ever be a native MacOS app, opposed to the iPad version?

Works mostly fine, but there are numerous quirks due to it not being native.

The iOS app is suppose to auto sync?

Hi friends,
Stupid question, but the iOS app is suppose to auto sync the vault right? Mine does not, I always need to go into settings → force sync to get changes to my vault.

If I change something in the app, the web vault is updated though. Have I made some settings so it does not sync on startup maybe?

Catch-all with domain in SL

For anyone that uses SL and catch-all, have you noticed on the fly catch-all doesn't appear to be working with a custom domain?

I signed up on a website and used my domain with the name of the business name @mydomain like normal expecting to receive a free ebook. I waited about an hour and nothing. I tried using another catchall and nothing again.

This is very unusual behavior.

Question about migrating from iCloud Keychain to Proton Pass

Hello everyone,

I’d like to switch to Proton Pass (Plus or Lifetime), but I have a question and can’t seem to find an answer.

Currently, with icloud+ (HME + iCloud Keychain) each service has its own email address and unique password (or passkey) the same goes for my current Proton account :-). Only my Apple account uses an email address and password that I know.

My question is: how do those who have migrated from iCloud Keychain to Proton manage their Apple and Proton accounts ?

I’m not sure if I’m being entirely clear, but once I migrate, should I set my Proton and Apple accounts to use the same password in case I need to access one of them without being able to recall their unique passwords? For example, if I set a random password on my Apple account and then reset my iPhone while on vacation without having my Mac or a PC available.

Here’s an example that might make it a little clearer:

  • Proton account = personal email + password: TOTOA
  • Apple account = personal email + password: TOTOA
  • Amazon account = hide my email + password: random
  • Facebook account = hide my email + password: random

What happens if I import the same passwords twice? Will it override or duplicate everything?

Hi, gradually transitioning from Dashlane to Proton Pass. I imported my passwords from Dashlane to Proton Pass already but since then I have added and changed a few passwords on Dashlane. If I re-import the passwords, will Proton Pass list everything twice (from the first import and the second import) or will it detect duplicates and override them?

MacOS menu bar icon has only two options

I don’t find a solution — maybe I’m dumb.

In 1Password and Bitwarden, the icon in the menu bar opens the vault, and you can search, access, and autofill right there. Proton Pass however only has two options: “Open Proton Pass” and “Quit.”

How do I get my vault to open from the menu bar?

Hide Aliases From Entry List

Years later, I'm starting to move towards using aliases for everything. My problem is, I think it's really annoying to have all of the alias entries cluttering up the entry list. This is actually the reason I very rarely used them, because I have 700 items as it is, let alone adding another 100+ as I go :) Is there a way to filter these out? (You can imagine that this is a really worthless search query!)

Force new login when fingerprint changes

So I noticed that when a new biometric login is added to an android device, Proton pass does not force a new login. This means that the devices master password/pin/pattern acts as a masterpassword to Proton apps (not only pass) and all the data within them. This is not the case in some competitors products (for instance nord pass) which forces an entirely new login flow for its account when the biometrics on the device change. It also begs the question why Proton pass even bothers to give you the option to force biometric authentication for unlock (rather than pin etc) when said pin can be used to register new biometrics on the device without Proton detecting it.

From a security perspective, I see this as quite a big weakness of Proton compared to Nord.

Should I use a Proton Mail account for Proton Pass or just sign up with Gmail?

I’m planning to start using Proton Pass. Should I use a Proton Mail account for Proton Pass or just sign up with Gmail? I will not be using Proton Mail and I’m not looking to purchase any paid Proton products.

I'm concerned about the claim that free Proton Mail accounts that are not used for 12 months will be closed.

Just looking to get people’s opinions.

What other features would you like to get implemented from Bitwarden to Proton Pass?

as i stated in my last post here are mines:

1.Keybind autofill from keyboard

2.Four digit PIN

3.Pause list but for Android

4.Revamped UI for favorite crednetials and other ui revamps and declutters too similar to Bitwarden.

Can't Wait for Motorola's Graphene Phones ...

I'm hoping that Motorola releases phones I find desirable with Graphene, but in all honesty I'm 99% certain I'm buying whatever they make available ... with that in mind, does anyone foresee any issues with Proton apps and the planned Graphene releases?

Is Proton making any plans for the releases? Is anyone using Proton's on Graphene and have any issues or insight what to expect?

Pass should have an independent login

As the title says.

I keep my Proton login details in a password manager because I don’t know the password by memory.

If the login for accessing the ProtonPass vault is the same, I can’t store it in ProtonPass, I have to store it somewhere else....

I think it would make much more sense for ProtonPass to have a separate login, even if we then had to log in with our Proton account just to verify the subscription.

Switching from MS Auth to. Proton Auth questions

Hi

I've been thinking of switching for awhile, as I liked that I could have Proton Authenticator on multiple devices at the same time, which helps if one gets lost. Also I think it has backup.

I've been using MS Authenticator for a while, and though it is good, the backup part always worried me, as one time my wife's backup failed while trying to restore, and it seemed like you had one shot (as everything was gone).

Now I looked at my MS Authenticator randomly today and noticed it said I need to "sign in and turn on backups."

I tried to toggle the switch of turning on backups on and off, and now I've lost my backup, and it won't let me create a new backup. Apparently this has been going on for at least 5 days, from what I've seen online...

Now my question is if I switch over to proton auth.

  1. Does it have an option to make sure you need to use biometrics or something before you can access the account?

  2. Will I still need MS auth for my Microsoft stuff. Sometimes when logging into an account, it will ask me to choose a number from the app that shows on my screen.

I am seriously considering moving from Bitwarden to proton pass

A serious problem with Bitwarden is that it is inconsistent in accepting and recording passkeys; in contrast, ProtonPass stores them Quickly.

Additional improvements to the pass

1.Add keyboard shortcut function to autofill using keyboard for example autofill for credit card, passowrd and other credentials should be used by just clicking ctrl + shift + L

2.Add 4 digit pin option to proton pass extension and its just like on android and keep 6 digit pin as an another option

3.Pause list to be added on android app just like its on broswer extension

And lastly

4.Redesign the pinned items ui to be on the vault section and could keep it as both while hovering and having it like this just like on Bitwarden for example

Is it okay to have one free account + one paid account? (free proton mail account + paid secondary account ONLY for proton pass)

I don't want to put everything in one basket and split everything password managing related to a secondary account so that i wouldn't lose access to everything else if i'd ever lose access to my main account.

Why are passwords still a leading cause of data breaches?

Most people use passwords every day, so it’s easy to forget that they can cause an extraordinary amount of damage if not managed properly. Most teams know they should use strong passwords, avoid reuse, enable two-factor authentication (2FA), and store credentials securely. But password-related breaches happen every day, not only in large enterprises but also in small teams managing a growing mix of SaaS tools, shared accounts, and fast-moving workflows.

Our latest Proton Pass blog examines why password-related breaches still happen: https://proton.me/business/blog/password-security
