Anyone retire to India or planning to retire to India?

Not sure about the age makeup of this subreddit but I’m assuming there are older ABCDs lurking here.

As you know, most Americans think of Mexico, Belize, and Europe when considering retiring abroad for a lower cost of living and cultural enrichment as a bonus. Florida is the usual domestic spot for those looking to retire in the States while getting the sun and sea.

India (at least the tropical/beachtown locations) could be the better option for ABCDs looking to retire abroad. English is common in Tier 2 cities and higher and of course, you look like the natives so no issues with racism, I guess. Many cities in South India are very well developed. Food/water hygiene and infrastructure could be a problem but they are present in Mexico, Belize, and Costa Rica as well so it’s a wash. So tropical India could be good retirement destination for those of us who are already FIRE or getting there.

Has anyone retired to India or planning to do so? If so, what is your experience like? I’m thinking of retiring to Trivandrum or Pondicherry as that was most recommended for those who know only English and looking for tropical beach town vibes.

What are the best Tier 2 cities for an US born Indian-American looking to retire in India?

Seattle-based Indian American here. Born and raised in the great Pacific Northwest. Looking to retire in a tropical place. Most American expat retirees usually settle in Mexico, Belize, Spain, Portugal, etc.

But as a strict vegetarian, these places don’t suit me and I think India would be a better fit for me. So what Tier 2 cities in India would be suitable for someone like me who’s independently wealthy and looking for a tropical place to retire to? I’m thinking Trivandrum, Kochi, or Mysuru but open to suggestions. Thanks all!

EDIT: so additional information:

I know only English so the Tier 2 city’s language barrier must be low.

I’m not worried about the residential infrastructure as I plan to be off the grid as much as possible: solar power with batteries, well water, septic tank, etc.

Everyone is mentioning Pondicherry and I looked into it and it seems to be the ideal location. Close to ocean, close to a major T1 city (Chennai) and low language barriers. And this being India, easy availability of vegetarian food and restaurants.

Commercial relationship between dairy farmers and Muslim butchers exposed.

Dairy farmers protesting decision by Muslim butchers to stop buying dairy cattle.

This exposes the mutually beneficial commercial relationship between the dairy industry and Muslim butchers. That is why India is top exporter of beef and leather in the world.

Jains should boycott milk consumption to avoid funding/supporting the slaughterhouse business.
