Britax One4Life - short straps

*I contacted Britax about this already and I’m waiting to hear back :)*

I recently bought my 2 year old a Britax One4Life as his old seat was being passed down to younger sibling. I read the manual, removed the padding that didn’t apply, installed the seat, adjusted the headrest, etc. He is still rear-facing, so I ensured straps were coming from just below his shoulders. Tried to buckle him in and he started crying saying, ouch! The straps were loosened all the way and I couldn’t get them loose enough to connect and click the buckle(!!!!!). He is a big kid, 90%ile in height and weight and has a long torso.

But what am I doing wrong that I can’t get the straps loose enough to buckle my 2 year old?!? (I pull on the loosener strap until it won’t give any more.) He rides in a Nuna Rava in our other car and that seat still has plenty of slack in the straps for him to ride in longer. I’m shocked because I bought the One4Life BECAUSE it was supposed to have the highest harness height for rear facing, which should mean longest straps. Am I missing something? Should I just get him another Rava? 😅

Where else to look for birth/baptismal record in Ontario, Canada?

(x-posted in r/genealogy)

Hi all, I’m searching for a record of birth of baptism for an ancestor named William (probably Peter) Palmer born in Leeds County, Ontario, Canada around 1834-1836.

I know civil registrations weren’t a thing yet, but I haven’t found a baptismal record for him either. No marriage record for the parents yet, either (Noah Palmer and Jane Main, married likely in 1833). The family always identified as Episcopal Methodist on census records, but I think there weren’t a lot of established churches at that time, so I understand people sometimes used whatever denomination of reverend was passing through as a circuit rider. I contacted the United Church Archives who punted me off to a local church, St. Andrew’s (and also told me to hire a private genealogist), and I’m waiting to hear back from them.

I also purchased a transcription of the 1830-1850 Brockville Recorder newspaper records from the Leeds & Grenville branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society and haven’t found anything there either. I have a request in with them, but their automated response is saying they have an indefinite wait.

I have records for William’s father Noah Palmer in Yonge Township, Leeds County, in 1828, and believe his mother, Jane Main was born in 1813 in the Dundas county area. Her brother William was baptized at St. Andrew’s in 1797, but she was born during the war of 1812 so I haven’t found a baptismal record for her either. Her family lived in the Edwardsburg/Charlottenville area so I’m not even sure how she met and married Noah Palmer. She was the daughter of a UEL and even submitted a successful DUE land petition, so I have a hard time believing there are NO more surviving records out there of her and her family members!!!

All I have for William Palmer is the 1851 Canadian census and then a smattering of American records after he moved to the US around 1857. His death record states father as “unknown Palmer” and mother as “unknown” so I can’t even use that to link him to Noah and Jane. That’s all I need, is something stronger than a census linking William Palmer + his parents Noah and Jane Palmer.

He had several siblings and I can’t find anything for them either. Maybe the family wasn’t religious ???

TLDR: where else should I look for Leeds County, Ontario marriage and baptismal records around 1830s?
