Like, I’ve seen more than a few commenters here making that exact statement, and it just baffles me to no end — you don’t have to actually think that Digital Circus is a literal masterpiece to realize that Helluva Boss makes it look like one by comparison. Not only is HB a straight-up incoherent mess of skewed plotlines and wasted character arcs with horribly inconsistent tone and pacing… but Stolas is literally the original Jax!!! Hell, even Jax at least had the decency to admit that hes a terrible person!
Please tell me I’m not alone in recognizing this ridiculous double standard.

Obviously, you can feel however you like about TADC, especially after the finale… but I think its clear to anyone actively following the fandom discourse (particularly on TikTok and X) that people have gone well beyond good-faith criticism ever since the finale was released last month. In fact, there’s been a full wave of unbridled hatred pointed toward Gooseworx herself that would only be too familiar to poor Vivianne; from personal insults about Gooseworx being a shitty writer of “goyslop,” to false accusations of her being racist, sexist and even… <rubs eyelids>… transphobic based on old Tweets that were wildly taken out of context, to people weirdly pointing out that Gooseworx is good friends with Vivianne (which she is) as a justification for bashing both artists, to even the old “written by Vivziepop” meme being repackaged as “written by Gooseworx,” and with the same lazy ad nauseum format as before. And of course, there are more than plenty examples of naked transphobia being directed at Goose (yes, even from the same haters calling HER transphobic) which parallel the regular bigotry that Viv has grown used to receiving by now.
Honestly, if there’s anything good to come out of this recent development, it’s that the genuine fans of both Vivziepop’s and Gooseworx’s content now have common online enemies to rally against, and that any beef between the TADC and Hellaverse fandoms that may have existed before should be put aside in favour of general indie-media solidarity.
Just pretend that the Hellaverse shows already had their finales too.
I share a lot of the frustrations that people here have of Episode 9, but I’ve also seen a concerning number of people claim that either A) the episode was so bad that it ruined the rest of the show that came before or B) the show was always bad and Gooseworx is a hack writer (among… other opinions about her that go well beyond good-faith criticism). Perhaps the first claim is understandable enough, but it’s that second one that really baffles me. Like, do we really think a shoe that bad would’ve been given GLITCH so much exposure over the years and made it to freaking Netflix and Thestores? Or would it not have simply gotten the Murder Drones treatment/ be forced to end on an inconclusive whimper of a finale before being swept under the rug?
Personally, I feel that the first four episodes of TADC are solidly written (yes, even the pilot that was everyone’s least favorite episode before June 4), with episodes 2 and 3 being near perfect in my eyes. Episodes 5-8 are much more of a mixed bag thanks to the Jax-centric storyline and C&A slop, but still contain plenty of hilarious and heartfelt moments in between to make up for it. And like I said, everyone’s welcome to feel as disappointed with the finale as you please.
