Fine dining in Rome—worth it, or better to focus on trattorias?

My wife and I will be visiting Rome for our anniversary, and our primary focus is ancient history, early Christian sites, and just enjoying the city. That said, we would love to sprinkle in a few fine dining experiences throughout the trip.

For those who have frequented Michelin-starred restaurants in Rome and elsewhere, how does Rome compare as a fine dining destination? A lot of the advice I’ve seen suggests that Rome’s high-end dining does not always hold up compared with other major European cities, and that visitors are often better off focusing on excellent mid-tier restaurants, trattorias, and traditional Roman food. We definitely plan to do that as well, but we are still interested in one or two special meals.

Right now, I’m considering:
Acquolina
Orma
Moma
Enoteca La Torre

I’m very open to other suggestions too, especially from people who have dined at Michelin-starred or fine dining restaurants in Rome and can compare them to places in Florence, Paris, London, Spain, New York, etc.

Would you prioritize any of these? Skip any? Or would you spends the fine dining budget elsewhere and focus on Roman classics while in Rome?

Early morning departure from Naples?

We're planning to stay at Casa Angelina in Praiano, but our flight home departs Naples (NAP) at 6:15 a.m. on April 24, 2027.

I realize this ultimately comes down to personal preference, but I'm curious if anyone has first- or second-hand experience with this situation.

Would you stay on the Amalfi Coast and arrange a very early private transfer to the airport, or would you spend the final night in Naples instead? If you stayed on the coast, how did it go? If you moved to Naples, were you glad you did?

We're happy to pay for a private transfer if we stay in Praiano, but I'm trying to decide whether preserving that last evening on the coast is worth the very early departure, or if the peace of mind of staying near the airport is the better choice.

I'd love to hear what others have done and whether you'd make the same decision again.

Amalfi Coast or Santorini/Mykonos first for food, views, and luxury resorts?

My wife and I are trying to decide between doing the Amalfi Coast or Santorini/Mykonos first, and I’d love advice from people who have done both.
Our biggest priorities are:
Food
Views
Luxury hotel/resort experience
Beautiful pools / relaxing setting

We care much less about nightlife, so Mykonos would not be for the party scene. We’re more interested in great views, beautiful hotels, memorable meals, and a relaxing pace.
For the Amalfi Coast, I’ve looked more closely and would likely try to split the stay between Borgo Santandrea and Casa Angelina. Our hotel budget would probably be around $2,000 per night.

For Greece, the pools and views at many of the Santorini/Mykonos resorts look extremely appealing, which is what’s making the decision harder.

We would likely travel in shoulder season, probably September or October, though that could change.

For people who have done both:
Would you do Amalfi Coast or Santorini/Mykonos first?
How would you compare the food scene between the two?
Is Amalfi clearly better for dining, or does Santorini/Mykonos hold its own if planned carefully?
Does September/October favor one destination over the other?
And if we do Greece, which resorts would you recommend that would compete with the Borgo Santandrea / Casa Angelina type of experience?

Rome Hotel Concierge for Tours—Recent Experiences?

We’re planning an anniversary trip to Rome and are hoping to stay at a hotel with a strong concierge who can help arrange reliable tours and experiences (particularly Vatican/Sistine Chapel and Colosseum tours).

Has anyone recently had success booking these kinds of tours through a hotel concierge rather than directly with a tour company?

We’re especially curious whether the concierge route helped avoid cancellations, ticketing issues, or low-quality guides. We’re currently considering Orient Express La Minerva, The First Arte, and Umiltà 36, but we’re open to other hotels if people had great concierge experiences.
Would love to hear which hotel you stayed at, what tour they arranged, and whether you’d recommend booking that way again.
