Weapons and damage question

I plan on running a Cain game in the near future and I need some help clarifying how to calculate damage. With blasphemies it's sort of clear: you roll your Psyche with any appropriate bonuses. Vector adds +1 if the air bullets are used to disarm, Tension's Severance adds +1 die if it's to protects someone or if it's against an immobile target. Ardence sabre adds up to +3 dice from tension the first time it was used and also sixes count as 2 successes. Okay.

But what about weapons? Is there any meaningful difference between a switchblade and a chainsaw? Or a pocket revolver vs. a shotgun? I can make my own rulings for them, same as with offensive blasphemies, sure, but what's the RAW interpretation here?

What if instead of a bunch of variable magic effects Morrowind had a library of fixed spells and/or potions like some other, non-TES RPGs?

I know it would be a completely different game, but I can't help but feel some disappointment with how custom spellmaking works. Sure, you can combine some spell effects, but it's often not beneficial to add anything flavourful or whimsical, for lack of a better word. Like, for example, fire damage doesn't produce light without specifially adding an illusion effect and making the spell less efficient mana-wise. Or how frost damage spells don't have an innate chance to paralyze the opponents. And everyone knows how Feather is just flat out worse than Fortify Strength or how Swift Swim is weaker than Fortify Speed.

Are there any mods that replace Morrowind's magic system with something from D&D or Arcanum?

As much as I love VtMB, some railroaded plot points infuriate me to no end

Like how there is no way for you to avoid mentioning Nines going out of Grout's mansion. Probably the worst case of railroading in the whole game. And it's not even like you had to be the one to tell LaCroix about it. He could pretend to get the info from other sources, like his ghouls or something. Even if it absolutely had to be you, there could be a moment like before Elizabeth Dane mission, where LaCroix dominates you if you refuse. After what Troika did with Arcanum's brilliant non-linearity, I'm genuinely irked we can't lie or maneuver here in some way. The best way, of course, would be to use persuasion and force LaCroix into admitting he knew about "Nines" ahead of time by being obviously too specific with his questioning. Something along the lines of "Yeah, I saw someone walking out from the mansion, but by the time I got there, that person has already vanished and I haven't seen their face."

After Nines saved your life TWICE, it has to count for something. Surely even the dumbest neonate would have enough sense not to betray a person who was consistently helpful and didn't even demand any errands to be run in return.

Looking for retro goth games

More specifically, the vibe of an English rain-soaked garden of roses. The frilly goth dresses. The sad, dreamy, fairy-tale atmosphere. Preferably female protagonist.

What I have already played that fits:

  • Cineris Somnia (immaculate vibes, unfortunately not much else)
  • American McGee's Alice & Madness Returns (only occasionally fits the theme, but is generally enjoyable to play)
  • The Path (the one about 7 little red riding hood girls. Very thematic, but more of an artistic statement on the dangers of growing up as a girl than a full-fledged game)

I also vaguely recall playing a game called "The Endless Story" or something similar, but I can't find any references to it online. It had a theme of stained glass with pictures of roses, early 3d modelled characters, female protagonist and a jrpg style turn-based combat.

I'm nostalgic for that mid-2000 edginess, but more than that, I'm curious if there's been any more games where you get to play a demonic gunslinger, who charges his shots with hellfire.

I've played Prototype and Metal: Hellsinger - and they are both very close, but they go in different directions with Prototype's biopunk and Hellsinger's underworld environments. If Alex Mercer was using hellfire instead of claws and tentacles, or if Hellsinger was set in the mortal world, it would be perfect.
