The Clean-Up Crew and Eldritch Horrors from Doomsweepers:

These are the four main characters and a few of the Bacteria Monsters from “Doomsweepers”, a newly unveiled action comedy franchise, planned to consist of a Comic, Video Game and Animated Series (Hopefully). The IP is being created by Sarah Harper, best known for Rise of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Lego Monkey Kid and Glitch Techs, and is being worked on as a co-production between Lightfold and Flying Bark Productions.

The plot revolves around a group of misfit cleaners at a shady laboratory, who are faced with the outbreak of an apocalyptic zombie-esk infection, and are forced to fight back and save the world, using their own cleaning equipment as weapons.

From left to right in pic two, The Team consists of Nikki (with the Anime stickers, Tamagotchi and Scrub Daddies), Steph (purple headphones and “Soap-Thrower”), Levi (ID lanyard, camera and Dual Mops) and Dogmeat (grimy and damaged suit with clear goggles and Dual Disinfectant Sprays). The group has a pretty cool design philosophy, similar to that of The TMNT and Ghostbusters, where they all share a uniform look, but each with their own unique elements, that set them apart. I personally really like the stylisation of the characters, especially with how their faces are obscured by the hazmat suits, only showing silhouettes, yet still being really expressive and having a lot of personality.

Then we also have the monsters the team has to go up against, which we see a few of in the announcement trailer, and seem to be zombie like and inspired the viruses of Resident Evil and the fungus from The Last of Us, but in this case it’s a Bacteria infection, with an eye and teeth theme and mostly blue and purple colour scheme. Towards the end of the teaser, we also see this girl, who seems to be “patient zero”, and what looks like the main villain of series, and is really cool in her own right, with a kinda Vecna/Gozer vibe going on.

Highly recommend watching the Trailer:

It honestly looks Amazing! Screen shots just don’t do it justice.

Here’s a link to Lightfold’s Website:
https://lightfold.tv/pages/doomsweepers

Right now, the studio is doing a “project milestones sign-up campaign”, to gauge public interest in the IP. It’s similar to Kickstarter, but Completely Free, where all you need to do is sign up to Lightfold’s newsletter, which will give you updates on all of their upcoming projects. At the time of writing this, the Final Goal is 30K Sign-Ups, for a Full Animated Series, and the current level is at around 22.5K. So, if you like what you see, then be sure to sign up, when you get a chance, and make it Happen!

PS: Don’t forget Flying Bark’s Website Too: https://www.flyingbark.com.au

Anyway, that’s it from me, I just genuinely love the character designs and concept as a whole, so I thought I’d share it here.

Anyone know what the context to this loading screen is?

I know the girl on the right becomes leader of The Chained Choir, in “The Hummingbirds” path, but who’s the BOS looking person in the middle and the Pink Assultron to the left? Is that Doki?

PS: sorry about the bad quality. I just couldn’t be assed to data mine the game, and just took a photo of my monitor instead.

(Mostly Hated Trope) Films that are basically just Ads for a “Cinematic Universe”:

(Bonus points if the film was unsuccessful, and The “Universe” ended soon afterwards.)

The Mummy (2017) - Universal’s “Dark Universe”

Probably the most well-known example of this. From the very beginning, the plan was for face reboot of The Mummy to act as a pilot for a wider cinematic universe, comprised of classic monsters, which universal owned the rights to.

While the original idea was for it to be a horror franchise, that soon changed, due to the popularity of the MCU, and Tom Cruise taking control of the project, pushing The Mummy into a more action focused direction. So, it was then decided that each film would lead towards an eventual team up film, which would be something of a “Monster Avengers” you could say.

This agenda is painfully obvious in the final film, as we introduced to “Dr Jekyll”, he is essentially a Nick Fury stand in, with his own shield equivalent. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also a room containing various Easter eggs, relating to other monsters, like a vampire skull and the hand of The Creature of The black Lagoon.

However, though, whatever you thought of the final film, it ended up being a massive financial flop for universal, with an estimated $60 to $95 Million loss, and all future plans for the Dark Universe were put on permanent hold, for now at least.

Scoob! (2020) - The Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe

In this reboot of Scooby Doo, one of the most notable features is the amount of characters from other Hannah Barbera shows, like The Blue Falcon, Dick Dastardly from Wacky Races and Captain Caveman. This is because apparently Warner Brothers had plans to make a cinematic universe, comprised of various different franchises created by Hanna-Barbera.

However, the film wasn’t the smash hit the studio had hoped for, and the nearly finished sequel, Scoob: Holiday Haunt, was unceremoniously cancelled in a series of tax write-offs by WB in 2022, thus ending the hopes of Hannah Barbara making a major comeback, at least for the time being.

Black Adam (2022) The Rock’s Revival of The DCEU

While definitely not the start of for DCEU, Black Adam was intended to be a kind of soft reboot for DC in live action, with The Rock having creative control, and inserting himself as The titular antihero, and main face of change in this new direction for the franchise.

However, despite bringing back Henry Cavill as Superman, and setting up a versus film between him and Black Adam, the film was a major disappointment at the box office, and following this failure, Warner Brothers decided to give the role of creative director to James Gunn instead, who decided to just wipe the slate clean and start up the New “DCU” instead, which is where we are today.

(Design Trope) “Ska”Influenced Characters:

For those who don’t know, Ska is an often overlooked subculture, spawned from the music genre of the same name, popularised in the 70’s and 80’s by bands like Madness, The Specials, The Beat, The Selector and Bad Manners etc. In essence, Ska is essentially a fusion of Afro-Caribbean culture with European and North American influences, resulting in a unique marriage of styles. Aesthetically, Ska outfits are often an odd mix of formal and casual clothing, with Trilby Hats, pinstripe suits and ties, spliced together with stuff like Martens, straight-leg high-ankle jeans, braces, and simple shirts, along more modern trainers and hoodies, While hairstyles vary, jagged, spiky hair, or little to no hair at all, are considered staples of the subculture. In someways, Ska is stylistically comparable to the Skinhead subculture, but without the nationalistic connotations surrounding it. Instead, it’s quite the contrary, with Ska generally considered inherently “anti racist in its nature. However, a key design detail which sets Ska apart, is certain iconography like frequent use of black and white chequered patterns and skulls, which is often a major distinguishing factor.

Walt Jabsco The “Rude Boy” (Mascot of Two Tone Records)

Beat Betty (Mascot of The Beat)

Tomska’s various avatars over the years (He’s a big fan of the genre, hence the name “Tom-Ska”)

The Members of “F**k The Factory” from This Town (2024)

The Townies (Dropouts) - Bully (2006)

Absolute Harley Quinn - Absolute DC

Orks from Warhammer 40K

A Fallout graphic novel I've been working on

Some background, I have been a professional artist/digital artist for over 15 years, and have been working on this since 2022. I got the idea many years ago after watching the film "Samsara", and decided to combine my love for Fallout with my own spiritual journey with Buddhism. The story follows a PLA Soldier that turns to Buddhism after the war to cope with the end of the world, and their journey through post-war Asia.

I stopped working on this full time ever since AI took over most of the digital art world, and was very discouraged to continue it. So here's everything that's left of the project.
