Living alone means I get to decide exactly how my space vibes. It’s not massive, but every single corner is a safe cave where I can retreat after a long day of work, log off, and just reset.

To the solo living community: What’s your ultimate "safe haven" corner at home?

Anyone else feel a little paranoid living alone at first?

I’ve only been in my new apartment for a couple of weeks, and I swear every little noise sounds about 10 times louder at night.

Neighbor shuts a door? I’m instantly awake.

Someone walks down the hallway? I pause the TV and listen.

The elevator dings at 2 a.m.? For some reason, that feels way more suspicious than it probably should.

I know this is probably just part of getting used to living alone, but the first few nights had me acting like the night shift security guard for my own apartment.

Please tell me this goes away and I’ll eventually stop treating every random noise like the opening scene of a horror movie.

I recently realized I had no idea how to shut off my main water valve in case of a leak. Definitely a wake-up call! Also curious if you guys have any favorite tips for staying safe/organized when there’s no one else around to help out.
