Urgent Advice Needed
hey everyone. so last night while out of town for the night, the power went out at our place due to a storm, and my top fin HOB filter ended up starting back up without any water in it. when we got home this morning after a 4 hour hour delay also related to storm related issues, and i noticed that the filter was making that dreaded clicking noise of sucking dry air, looked at the microwave and instantly knew what happened.
i’m trying to get a replacement ASAP, and in the meantime keep my airflow up in the tank (main priority over filtration). my air pump doesn’t seem to be working right either but i’m going to try replacing the line and stone quickly before getting a new one.
i know Topfin is the affordable brand, and the one the tank came with. i couldn’t justify the expensive of upgrading it before, but now i have no choice. i have a 50 gallon tank with 3 adult peacock cichlids, some fry and 4 pictus catfish in the tank currently. i’m located in Ontario, Canada, and im looking for recommendations for filters from knowledgeable hobbyists.
TL;DR: a power outage fucked up my filtration and possibly my air pump, looking for recommendations for replacements for a 50 gallon tank
Editing to add: got the fish bin out of storage and found the extra airline tubing and air stones, and the air pump is still in good working order. i only had one piece of extra tubing, so it’s only one bubbler rather than two, and i’ve got it cranked up to max for now just to try and replace oxygen in the water quickly, then i’ll turn it down after about 2 hours to make sure the levels are where they need to be but not cause unnecessary stress to the fish.
