Advice for someone completely new to emulation

I just got my first ever emulation device (RG35XXSP) and really want to maximize its potential. I'd love to hear recommendations and advice from people who know what they're talking about regarding the following

  • OSs (I already installed the upgraded version)
  • Rom sites
  • Rom games and where to download
  • Hidden features/ settings
  • Useful or just cool apps
  • Interesting mods
  • Uses that aren't gaming
  • Favorite games
  • Favorite consoles
  • How customize as much as possible (including exterior stuff)
  • Anything you think is interesting and want to share

I should also note that this is my second post here because I'm currently having an issue changing my boot up logo, post linked here

Custom Bootup image issue

after installing the OS upgrade, I changed the boot up image to the pre installed Evangelion one and was happy with that for a while. I decided I wanted to make it more so my own, so I decided to try uploading my own custom image to the micro sd. I'm pretty sure I put it in the right folder and positive that they were in the right file format, though not all of them were in the right aspect ratio. Now when I go to app center > apps > tf1 > theme manager > set boot logo, I see the list of files for a split second and then it immediately exits the app and entirely out of theme manager. Has anyone ever had this issue before or even any general tips on how to fix it?

Jailbroken console recommendations

I've been wanting to buy some kind of modded/ jailbroken retro console for some time now. I used to have a raspberry pie that emulated it think every NES game to ever exist but it broke not a while ago. I've seen people mod PSPs, PS Vitas, Nintendo DSs, Nintendo 3Ds, etc but I'm not sure what the best option is. I'm realizing all the ones I just listed are handheld consoles but that's not a requirement. I would also like to run primarily old 3d games, maybe PS1 to PS3 era but not playstation exclusively. I'm not opposed to building one myself either, but I really have no experience with that kind of thing. If I didn't just buy one from someone, preferably, I would just buy a console and install some software from online onto it. In short, I would like recommendations on where to buy/ how to build a modded or jailbroken retro handheld console from ps1 to ps3 era that comes preloaded with hundreds, if not thousands of retro 3d games preloaded onto it. Thank you for any recommendations.
