Saturn Controller mod with switches

Found a Saturn controller with a db15 end and switches on the front. I'm thinking this is likely a Neo Geo controller of some sort. Also unsure what the switches are for. Turbo maybe? Anyone know what mod this is?

GameCube mod for reading burned discs

I've recently gotten into GameCube modding after being into DS and 3DS modding for a few years. I enjoy using as much of the original hardware to get as much feel for the authentic experience as possible. (But I'm open to case modding)

As such, I enjoy using fake cartridges and collecting the games I can and ROM hacking the rest. For a while, I figured there was probably a mod out there that would let me use burned ROM hack discs. I've since discovered the GC modding scene is more about digital roms (which is fine). I've grown curious however as to if it was possible to figure out a way to use burned discs.

Would something like the flippy drive or the pico loader bypass the console's authenticator on ROM discs?

What types of mods would permit as much flexibility for discs and digital roms?

I'm also really curious as to what your guys' favorite mods are.

Hoskbrew Shell

Replaced my NES' original shell with one from Hoskbrew. I wanted to keep the two tone look to the console. The top is clear blue and the bottom is clear dark blue. The quality is really good; everything lined up and fitted together with no issues.

No affiliation with Hoskbrew; just really happy with how this turned out and wanted to share.

Need help installing free mcboot script into memory card

So as tutorial follows: burn freedvdboot into dvd-r, install freemcboot into fat32 usb, then insert burned dvd-r, usb, and a memory card into ps2 and wait for that custom menu to load.

But the problem is my ps2 slim refuses to read the dvd-r with the message saying the disc could not be read, but the console does read official ps2 game discs, what am I missing? My dvd player is 3.11E so it should read 'all ps2 slim" iso file but it doesn't. I followed a bunch of tutorials all of them have the same steps, what do I do?

N64PWR - USB-C power mod for Nintendo 64

Your N64 has been adventuring for nearly 30 years. It deserves a proper drink. 🍺⚡

N64PWR replaces the aging factory power supply with a modern internal USB-C Power Delivery solution, serving up clean, stable 3.3V and 12V power.

Think of it as pulling up a stool at a fine old tavern—your N64 gets to sip a finely brewed ale instead of choking down questionable grog from the bargain barrel.
But N64PWR isn’t just another USB-C adapter. It’s a purpose-built power supply designed specifically for the Nintendo 64, using high-efficiency switching regulators, dedicated 3.3V and 12V rails, output filtering, reverse-polarity and input protection, and a fault indicator for incompatible power adapters. No generic converter modules cobbled together—just a compact, professionally manufactured board engineered to replace the original power supply from the ground up.

✨ Clean, stable power
⚡ USB-C Power Delivery Standard Voltage
🔥 Efficient, low-heat design
🛡️ Integrated protection circuitry
🚨 Incompatible power adapter warning
🎮 Purpose-built for the Nintendo 64

N64PWR — serve your console the good stuff.

Building a Homemade Console/Steam Machine — Need Suggestions

🕹️ What I'm trying to do

A while back, I used my laptop as a makeshift console. I'd open Steam in Big Picture Mode, connect a controller to the laptop, and wirelessly mirror the laptop's screen to my TV.

Now I want to make a proper dedicated version: a small Windows mini PC that stays connected to my TV and basically functions like a console.

💻 How I want it to work

- Windows desktop icons and taskbar hidden

- Steam launches automatically with Windows

- Steam opens directly in Big Picture Mode

- Use a Bluetooth controller for navigation and gaming

- Ideally, I shouldn't need to interact with the normal Windows desktop

🎮 Gaming goal

I want to play most games at around 60 FPS on Medium settings.

I have a Samsung 4K 55-inch QLED TV, so it doesn't necessarily have to run games at native 4K, but I want them to look good and not have noticeably poor image quality on the large screen.

💰 What I'm looking for

I want the mini PC to be as inexpensive and compact as reasonably possible, while still achieving that gaming goal.

I'm looking for brand-new components only — no refurbished or second-hand parts.

❓ What would you recommend?

What hardware would you suggest for building this kind of homemade Steam Machine? I'm mainly looking for the best balance of price, size, and gaming performance.

Any takers?

So about a week back i bought an untested wii u (101, 32gb Japan) off ebay for cheap, the problem came when the seller shipped the wrong power adapter so instead of waiting (like a normal person) for the correct one to arrive i used a variable power supply and may have put too many amps through it. Now it wont turn on, and id really like is some one would spend the time to help me try and fix it, cause I just cant afford to buy a new one

The main fuse (f1004) is fine and has continuity both filtering caps are toast but that shouldn't stop it from booting, and all power related caps read up fine.

Anyone willing, DM me for more details.

I will be reading the suggestions in the comments so all are welcome

I made a USB HID → Sega Saturn adapter

Since installing SAROO, I've been playing on an actual Sega Saturn much more often, and that made me want to use an arcade controller with it.

https://reddit.com/link/1vp0cra/video/cz7zyf12xijh1/player

So, with a little help from Claude, I made a simple USB HID → Saturn adapter.

It uses an Arduino UNO and a USB Host Shield to read USB controller input, then connects to the Saturn controller port through two TC74HC153 multiplexers.

The part I was particularly interested in was having the 74153s handle the Saturn's page-scanning protocol entirely in hardware. The Arduino basically just acts like the buttons on a Saturn controller PCB, so it doesn't need to deal with the Saturn's scan timing at all.

Despite the rather oversized microcontroller and cable setup, what it's doing is essentially the same as a controller pad hack.

I previously tried making a similar Genesis adapter using just a Raspberry Pi Pico and didn't get it working properly, so this time I decided to let dedicated logic ICs handle the protocol instead.

I tested it with a HORI RAP V3 SA and confirmed that it works correctly.

For now, I'm powering the adapter separately via USB-C, since I haven't confirmed whether the Saturn controller port's 5V supply can reliably power the entire circuit.

I'm a little hesitant about publishing the internals, though. There's the fact that I'm not sure how much demand there would be, and I'm not particularly confident that I can organize the wiring and explain the circuit clearly enough for someone else to reproduce it. As you can see, the wiring on the board is pretty messy.

There's also the fact that, if USB conversion isn't a specific requirement, there are already projects for building Saturn-compatible arcade controllers in much smarter ways. And commercially, there's the Brook Retro Board, which is basically a more advanced version of what I've made here.

So for now, I'm mostly treating this as a personal experiment rather than a polished project. It was a fun little project, though, and I'm happy that it actually works.

Repro cart pokemon blue battery mod?

I have a reproduction pokemon blue cartridge and it has voltage drop issues while saving and music cuts out , batteries were almost dead in my console and I went to save which dropped the voltage and the console lost power . This resulted in my save being deleted, my question is how can I modify this to have this save using a battery when I solder it in? Is there anything I can do to make this happen ? I plan on flashing a retail unmodified pokemon blue ROM and adding a battery would that work?
