Want some money on the side from my uk retail job but can only think of OF (I’m not desperate for money but just want some on the side)

TLDR

So I M18 want to earn some extra money on the side from my retail job. But can only think of 18+ content

I don’t have my license so do I just do that kind of content or wait till I get my license. Or do I do something else? If so what?

Since payday is not too far away I thought It’s time I let you know how working at an express (as a first job has been) after 45 days

So obviously since this post I got paid. And the most that’s happened in that time ima be honest was someone accidentally dropping lager on the floor an hour into my shift, other customers telling me about England games (my hours have been whilst the games are on), seeing some old friends that I’ve not seen in ages come to the till and getting a paper cut whilst doing newspapers

Also that situation that you guys may have saw in my last post in this subreddit. since then I’ve had a meeting and nothing bad has seemed to happen atm. For that one dumb mf in the comments that was harassing me saying I should be sacked

Also I just received my colleague clubcard and the uniform this week at last so that’s also been good. I’ve done 2 days extra hours this month and I’m gonna take any day that’s a reasonable time with a reasonable length of time that’s not on a weekend (weekends are way too strsssful for me)

Also one funny but weird thing happened. I think I got played by a guy for flowers because he tapped his card before I even had a chance to press pay. Also I saw a butterfly so big in the shop the other day I thought it was a bat

Am I doing well at this express (it’s also my first job) gimme ur thoughts Reddit?

Encountered my first overreactive customer yesterday. AITA

So before this situation my colleagues suggested I take my break at 7. And I agree to it.

Now like 5 mins before 7 I see my colleagues (everybody but 1 not including me) outside just doing their own thing and I say to myself under my breath (it was so quiet I never even expected the customer to hear) “what are those fucking cunts doing outside” <— I was also handling a line of about 6 while doing it and I was already having a tough day.

This customer clearly hears me. Starts arguing with me even tho i assured him it wasn’t directed to any sort of customer. He asks for my manager. He goes on about my language whilst saying similar things himself when confronting me. As im bringing over the shift leader (cuz the manager wasn’t in) he pulls out his phone and I think he started recording me. I’m horrible at handling situations like this so I just had my head in my hands and just started bursting into tears. He tried to use the argument that there is kids in line and I shouldn’t be saying it whilst also saying the same.

Shift leader talks to the customer and I didn’t get much hearing on what he was saying but some of my colleagues and security man just tell me go to on my break (it hit 7 at this point) and just cool off.

I shouldn’t have said that and I do take accountability but the customer never needed to take it that far over something so little that those kids never probably even heard.

Am I the asshole or is the customer. Or is it us both?

Had my first “let’s talk” yesterday

So my usual days at my local express are Tuesday and Wednesday but I received a call Friday night if I could come in on the Saturday 4-10pm. I obviously said yes because of the extra money but the manager wasn’t here at all yesterday so it was just me, my shift leader, another colleague and a security guy. I was behind tills for basically the entire shift, my shift leader asked me to restock the shelves and do some face ups but I still don’t know where everything is in the shop so I had a hard time finding some of them. And even when doing face ups whenever I was about to get off the till, more people would come to the till (and to avoid my shift leader going on at me for it I waited to see if they would come to the till or use the self service

After my shift is basically done my shift leader asks me to come into the office for a “let’s talk” (keep in mind this shift leader has been an asshole since the second day I worked there, I mean I’m autistic and have a hard time learning the full layout, but my shift leader says “look, I know you’re new here mate but you have to be faster than that”) <— another thing I forgot to mention in that is he expects me to restock the shelves and do face ups of 5 levels of alcohol fridges, 6 levels of a wine shelf (chilled and not chilled) and all the frozen stuff whilst there is constant people coming to the till.

Anyway the meeting comes around and he says that I basically didn’t try to get anything off the cages and on the shelves when I literally tried to see if the items needed a restock and only maybe 4 things max did which none of em was wine. And when it came to face ups it was basically during the time where there was lots of people. My shift leader tried to claim I was behind the till even when there wasn’t but I was trying to see the items from afar to see if they needed restocking and even then I was coming off the tills to take a closer look. I tell him that but he says I’m suppose to juggle all of that whilst also doing newspaper and lottery and resetting tills in that timeframe.

Now I’ve been called in today until closing and accepted since I didn’t have much going on. What do I do?

Update after 3 weeks of working at a Tesco express on a temp contract

So last time I posted in this Reddit i was going in for my first day and now it’s coming up to my 4th week so I thought I’d let yall know how it’s been going. Also if anyone that does or doesn’t work at Tesco wants to ask something I’ll try my best to answer all in the comments

So my first day was a mix of a few things. Moving things to the front, face ups, on the tills etc. was quite nerve wracking on my first day cuz I barely had a clue what the fuck I was doing as this is my first job in general.

Second day went slightly better and this time I was helping move cages and helping to restock the shelves and after my break spent the rest of my shift on the tills. And because I only go in 2 days a week that meant my first week was over and went alright.

Third day is probably where it becomes the worst for me. My days got changed around (shit happens unfortunately) and got moved to earlier in the week so instead of Thursday Friday it was Tuesday Wednesday. Anyway I was for the basically whole of my shift on the tills and after 5pm til 11pm there was only 2 colleagues available (me and the shift leader). The shift leader did get his mate (who does also work for Tesco) to come help for a few hours but it didn’t help when I was putting some security tags on some wine my shift leader said “I know you’re knew and all that but you have to be faster than that” keep in mind I’m autistic and freak out whenever I do something wrong. And that also didn’t help when that same shift leader told me on the same day I almost let somebody run off with almost 2 full bags of shit.

4th day comes around and I’m still thinking about that incident from the 3rd day so whilst I’m on the tills again I’m paying more attention to the cameras but generally goes well and not much to report on this day. And with that 4th day over that meant the week was done for me.

5th day comes around and again it’s going fine for the most part scanning things for people on the tills, putting it in the bag etc (its faster for me and the customer as they aren’t holding up the line if I’m not doing it). I still am tryna find most of the vapes and tobacco as it feels like a bookshelf with many books. But I got some insight on how to close up the lottery and tying up the newspapers (yes I’ve been on the tills basically the whole time) but this time my normal shift leader werent in and this one was even nicer than the one I had before and was more understanding etc when I struggled to do something and felt less hostile

6th day comes around and again it’s kinda the same shit with the tills and tryna find tobacco and etc for the customers but now I know how to close up the lottery and still kinda struggling to tie up the newspapers together and it wasn’t made easier when customers kept coming in as I was tryna do it but the 6th day went well

4th week is on the horizon so if anyone who works or plans on working at Tesco in the next few months or even just anyone generally here has any questions for me I’ll try my best to answer them all

(Sorry for the paragraph for all the people with short attention spans)
