Removed my IUD

Hi,

Had my IUD since Jan. this year but had so much cramping and so much more heavy flow and only got worse so I decided Im done, this is not what I want for the coming years. Every time I had my period I cancelled appointments, cancelled seeing my boyfriend, could not go to the office etc. A shell of who I used to be.

Took it out today🎉. Some cramping during pullout which went away in minutes. I decided I give Mirena a try with my next period. If that doesn't work out we will see. Im 43, no kids, always had very regular periods with 0 pain. Hope Mirena is a better fit. Afraid of insertion as I the copper IUD had while 'sleeping' and I don't live in the States, they don't sedate here normally so only painkillers :/.

I really hoped non hormonal was a great option for me, at least I tried for 5 periods. But now glad I made this decision.

Since Sunday I have a bad cold (throat/ear/stuffed nose etc.). I got major signs on Sunday then minor signs yesterday and again major signs today however I did feel a bit better yesterday and today I feel a bit better than yesterday so to me having major signs again does not really align with the fact that I do feel a bit better every day. Did somebody else have this? Is it normal?

Just a short rant/question: why did our mothers (not all ofcourse) not tell us about this? My mom only told me that she was on birthcontrol until appr. 53 yrs old and that she didn' really have any symptons although I remember her being absolutely horrible in terms of moodswings in her 40s. Did that generation have it better, less symptons, less stress (and they did not have hormone therapy)?? Why are we left so much in the dark (it's better now in terms of info but still not abundant) by the media, doctors, female family members (!). All women experience it but somehow I never heard anything about it except: you get fat and there is nothing you can do about it ...oh yeah and hot flushes. I'm f43 and still can't really talk to my mom about it cause apparently..she was ok thanks to bc.
