When a person is a christian, many things you can say are very ironic

I will tell a true story and then explain my thoughts.

Christian Relative A: Because you see, medical science says just rely on science, and not the holy spirit.

Christian Relative B nods their head.

My Thoughts: This was during a car ride. I sit and read a book as I overhear these two people here.

My only thought at the time was, how ironic. Lol. They do exactly the same thing just for the 'holy spirit'. My thing is, look at how many people are ill and can/ could be helped and/or have passed on, because they kept waiting and praying for the 'holy spirit' to heal them. Guess what, they were not healed and they passed away. That alone tells me all that I need to know. Even some christian people say, 'we need to apply some medicine with the spiritual'.

Because they know if they don't get said modern medicine, they may increase their chances of not making it.

When christians take (jacked up) advice in general from their deity I will never stop seeing the irony (Many of us won't ofcourse)

Firstly, their god is semi-canonly a pedo. (The christians wanna say Mary is 12-14, also what's with some of them wanting her to be a child so bad? Some act like they want her to be a child, but that's another topic for another day.)

Second, he literally commands sexual assault, encourages slavery, baby killer etc and they present him 'loving'. So why are yall taking 'advice' from his followers who write his book. ( whether he is real or not.)

For example, I remember my family doing devotion quite some time ago, they spoke of Mark chapter 10, verses 1-16.

Verses eleven and twelve, as we know are often reasons why the stigma of divorce is exacerbated in christian spaces.

Mark 10:11 "And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her."

'Mark 10:12 "And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery."

In the case of just remarrying, they won't do anything to a man about that, they only allowed men to initiate divorces. The women were trapped, they had no autonomy at all. And in christian spaces these verses are often used to trap women and keep them miserable. Like religion has been doing for 2000+ years.

And that mess is another reason why they treat divorced WOMEN specifically as social pariahs. Bottomline is: So to their god divorce is wrong but he can murder babies and have people abused in many ways possible?

I once heard a christian person say, "If someone rolls their eyes when you begin to talk about jesus, you disturb their demons." I immediately felt like 🙄, can they please stop?

For context: there was this lady going on about how she feels as if folks who don't want to hear or talk about jesus, they are apparently fighting demons or her god bothers your supposed 'demons'. I immediately thought that maybe some folks don't because your book club gave them or exacerbated some emotional or mental health problems. Or because ultimately, some people are not going to believe in your cult ideology.

Heck, most people might be fighting emotional and psychological 'demons' (metaphorically) because of your religion, ma'am. The bottom line is that christians will invent any narrative to dodge anything. Le sigh.

TW: sensitive topic ahead, The older I get the more I realize or think of the following; Christianity is very much a death, war and SA cult. I often wonder how I didn’t realize it sooner.

Death: The major point being that a tortured demi-god guy was sacrificed by his father, the god of the story, for your salvation and to atone for the 'sins' of people on earth.

War: Yahweh is seemingly a projection of a warlord in that time period and area, on paper. In attempts to try and make warmongering divine. We all obviously know the whole OT is god-commanded genocide.

SA: Their veneration of the idea of a literal, more than likely, CHILD being SA'ed by their crazy deity and made to marry a grown male. And then they call her 'blessed among women.'

How is the idea of a child going through that traumatic mess a blessing?

What do you think about what christians call the 'Biblical standpoint' and my thoughts the Christian phenomena of 'planting a seed'

No, let's talk about it, because 1. Planting seeds (donating 100+ dollars to a church for prayers, y'know, asking the lawwd for a house, bigger blessings I guess) feels as if the churches are scamming you to get more money outta you. (That's totally obvious for those who already know) That's one of the most normalized scams, man.

  1. My personal thoughts on, the 'biblical standpoint', is that one of this view's major components is the phrase, "But did you ask god first?", this is said so much that people trapped in that doctrine will miss out on the biggest opportunities (e.g. Career) because they are so hooked on an ancient societal hierarchy rule-book. "Lean not on thy own understanding" does nothing but create or exacerbate self-sabotaging and/or self-doubt.

Some pamphlet propaganda my relatives got from a church

Apologies for the terrible angles and lighting everyone. Bear with me please. What got me is the 'sinful unbelievers and eternal active judgement' part. 😭😭 These folks are dead serious with this stuff. Lol.

All laugh emojis aside, this is obviously fear-based conditioning. I only see this stuff and immediately think of all these poor children who are being fed this nonsense and spending chunks of their lives afraid to 'burn.'

u/No-Wrongdoer-9850 — 4 months ago

It still baffles me that some folks use the bible to raise their children + what are your hottakes?

Because what do I look like taking parenting advice from someone who sacrificed their own child? (Or commanded others to do the same.) Also, it is still funny that an omnipotent being needs a sacrifice to do their work.

Christians know they need to get somewhere and sit down. Lol.

What do you think of 1 Peter 5:8-9? And other random thoughts

1 Peter 5:8-9 says, "Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”

  1. The Devil or Satan is framed as the evil, however, when you look at it from a deconstructing lense, he doesn’t seem to be the only lion on the prowl to me.

  2. When I was growing up, xian family around me said, "the devil has no power" or if the belief of god showed any signs of fallacy to me, it would turn into, "god allows the devil power" which leads me to three.

  3. Ofcourse we as humans, when we do wrong, we need to hold ourselves and eachother accountable, why can't god do the same for himself? That is rhetorical.

  4. Why is god, who is supposed to be the loving parent, giving supposed evil 'power?'

  5. Logically, that means he is working with him. Source: the book of job.

I thought about the time a relative of mine said, "Hollywood will corrupt your home and your children." I wanted to peel my dermis off

Disclaimer: This is not me saying that hollywood is perfect, and something that can't be dangerous, especially for children. I am talking specifically about folks going on queerphobic rants because queer actors and actresses get casted on tv shows and movies. And they used kids as a smokescreen for their own bigotry.

I saw a post pertaining to Xians getting mad at lgbt people being seen by children, y'know existing as the people they are. And it reminded me of my christian relative who said, "Hollywood will corrupt your home and your children." ranting about moody teenagers and queer people on tv.

They basically said that people 'teach' queerness to children. That doesn’t make any sense. But do you know what you can teach children? Christianity. Y'all teach religion every sunday to children. Remember folks' mentions of sunday school? They have to make sure the children are nice and indoctrinated. Forcing the children to memorize their bible verses.

They are made to feel obligated to participate in that stuff the adults like. And the cycle continues.

Thinking about this occurrence the other day, lol. "We are followers of christ" - says a relative of mine

This happened when I was a kid.

We were all in the living room, and one parent of mine was reading a book, and one of the male main characters went on some misogynistic tirade on how women should act like this in a relationship or what not, the female main character goes, "Okay." like shit is sweet. How I know what the book said is that my parent likes to read aloud everything to the other.

Y'know patriarchy and christianity (who are in cahoots) is like a bad drug, some people in my family can't stop chasing the high that it gives them. Whether it is fiction or not, wait it is all ficition. (Side note: my parent tends to read books by authors who have the same psuedo-conservative views, I say 'psuedo' because they aren't heavily strict and restrictive)

That day, my sister said in disgust that the way the fmc responded is so submissive and that it is odd. And our parent proceeds to tell her, "That's what the bible says, we are christians, meaning we are followers of christ!" I have never rolled my eyes so hard. I wanted to say, "Who is we?" However, I bit my tongue that day.

We all know this but Christianity is so weird, lol.

Ever wonder how does one send themselves in the form of their own son to save everyone from what they, themself, would do to everyone if they don't worship them? The older I get the more I realized how ridiculous everything about that bookclub is, Lolz. All jokes aside, that manipulative mess is so crazy.

Nothing pisses me off more than folks calling a woman 'passed around'

It so gross and inhumane to me. I'm like, at the end of the day, that person is still a whole human-being.

Because when you are aware of patriarchy, historical context-wise, and present day wise, societal or systemic, you know why the disgruntled d worshipper crowd do and say the things that they do.

It starts from the milennia old male supremacist rhetoric that (and can be exacerbated by the man-made religion), female sexuality is evil (only when the woman desires it for herself). Historically, and even now, folks who say stuff like that, deep down inside they view women who have sex as 'giving away' their father or potential husband's 'property' away.

Peel away the basic shaming women for having sex, that is what it boils down to, especially the religious crowd.

Edit: It is also so dehumanizing.

Random thought: God sent two bears to maul little kids for calling Elisha bald, but he didn’t send not-a ONE for any actual cruelty.

He didn’t even think to send a locust after David, or a rapist in the situation of Deuteronomy 22, Tamar's brother etc., but if someone says your prophet is a bald-headed turd, you mad. Really? So inconsistent and inadequate.

The phrase "Every knee will bow." makes my skin crawl + Christianity teaches self loathing

First, I know many have already talked about this. Most ex-xians know that it teaches people that they are 'nothing' without that deity. Got it. Second, I just think at times, why would any sane person want to willingly and/or knowingly worship an evil like that? And it is so weird that many are or seem genuinely convinced that we will ALL bow before gawwd. I go, girl please. Who is 'we?' lol

It is the WILLFUL obtuseness in the comments that always piss me off, these folks devote their lives to missing the point

Sidenote: I swear folks don't put that much effort into life goals more than they do being foolish.

Notice how when there are people who say something in defense of women or in women's favor, they get downvoted? Off topic-ish, in that sub, I have also seen another post where someone in the comments called a SAHM 'a mooch', they tried minimizing her job(s), because she doesn’t work outside the home, apparently she isn't valid bc she is sahm. She provides too, darlings. She provides free labour.

Same thing again, when there are people with critical thinking skills in the comments, they get downvoted or talked down to. Lol.

Some people mentioned child support and everyone wants to portray men who have to pay as victims of some great evil entity or something. They act as if anybody can't get placed on child support or get alimony. An ignoramus said that, "alimony and child support are the same thing."

Fyi, as far as I know, bare with me if I am wrong, alimony is depending on who has the most income, CS is for whoever the custodial parent is. They aren't thinking of gender in these cases, it happens to be the mom/ex-wife because they are the ones who USUALLY tend to the child(ren) the most. Due to who? Patriarchy, folks! Societal thinking is patriarchal. Also, do these folks forget that in the case of CS, the custodial parent spends way more anyway over the years overall. They are the ones who primarily have the child(ren).

Hearing, "God wants us to critically think." from christians never fails to make me chuckle inside & what are some other ridiculous sayings you have heard?

I think, 'Oh really?' because according to christian i̶n̶d̶o̶c̶t̶r̶i̶n̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ doctrine if one does, they are gonna be supposedly punished for questioning god's 'word.' or daring to speak 'against' him. Leviticus 24:16 (I'd expect anyone with sense to speak against what that guy is doing) Also, the fairytale book is obviously illogical from the beginning, we can't all come from one specific pair of humans. I still can't believe that it took me this long to realize that it is all so ridiculous. You can't use critical thinking with that, because every last element within christianity will crumble when you put on a thinking cap.

What is the most misogynistic thing you have ever heard (be) said?

TW: religious misogyny, internalized misogyny, misogynoir, mentions of pedophilia and grooming and victim blaming

I will go first, the most misogynistic thing I have heard said a year or two ago was by a relative of mine (she is a she) she said quoting a misogynistic male, (and she said it as if that man had something of substance to say), "You ain't got to beat your woman, but if she gets outta line, you pop her in the mouth."

Someone get me a bucket I am about to HURL!

The things I have heard mentioned are said by family members who happen to be apart of the christian c̶u̶l̶t̶ religion. (Color me suprised) Here is a another thing I have heard, "He wasn't graping her, she was giving it out." That was said in reference to the case of at the time, 13 yo Na'Ziyah Harris. A little girl.

That was said in reference to a child, being gr00med and SA'ed by a predator...do you all see what religion can mold people's minds into? I know most religious folks devalue women and girls but I almost didn’t realize that some would say something like that about a child. I am not suprised that they'd say something like that, they literally follow a faith where an (alleged) child is 'impregnated miraculously' by a deity.

One more, a former nfl player once slapped his then gf (hopefully she ain't with him no more) all because she didn’t want their baby to be christened. Guess what a relative of mine says, "He should've slapped her, why wouldn’t you want a baby christened?"

So DV is ok bc a person doesn’t want a religious practice done for a baby?

u/No-Wrongdoer-9850 — 5 months ago

"Not these knees baby, not these knees." a woman speaking out against harmful religion + some random thoughts of mine

TW: this video contains mentions of violence in ancient texts!

This lady just made me think, if I, a woman, who is outspoken, not meek, not submissive and that god created women (in the bible) to be that, logically he can't create women like me.

That is what makes me even more irreligious. The fact that that is an expectation, for a grown ssa woman to be meek and quiet....

The patriarchy (which ofc goes hand and hand with those beliefs and those texts) often states that women are to be innocent, pure etc. Isn't innocence only ever in children?

Why does the patriarchy and religious texts want women to behave as if they are children? Is it because it reflects a society and time where grown predators "married" children? (yuck) What do you all think?
