What's up with all gambling posts?

Recently, there have been a lot of gambling posts on this sub. And a lot of them is of the post->delete variety.

While I do get that gaming has been historically used for gambling and betting, it doesn't feel that natural and seems like a pretty recent trend. So, why?

We all need a detox from social media — yes, including reddit and yes, including you too!

Information diet isn't a new idea. Pretty sure the 4-hours workweek talked about it in 2007 and I remember some self-help book from 1900-1910 where the author lamented young men who wasted their train and carriage ride on reading newspapers instead of memorizing and recalling important subjects.

After 12 day break from reddit and other forums, I can see the point in that. No more sensational topics that nobody cares about in a week, no more shills writing posts just to sell their own product and no more reading the same topics over and over again with slightly different text. All that either contradicts each other or just treading in the same productivity 101 waters. And all AI stink is gone too!

The method is simple:

- find the social media you waste most of your time on

- replace it with books

- books can be physical, digital or web-based but they need to be real books by real authors and not some 2026 Amazon hack.

- start with 3 major self help books from top lists, 6 non pop-sci books about subjects you study, work with or want to know and 12 fictional books, I prefer scifi and fantasy but your mileage may vary.

- start reading

But of course the question comes up: what if I don't have time and would prefer an AI summary? Great question and here is the unexpected answer: No, just no. The journey is the destination, the process is the result, the reading is the whole point.

So try that for a month or two and see how that feels.

I thought I lacked discipline, willower and motivation but actually…

All I need was poopoo! So I did poopoo and now I feel, no I identify myself as Batman. Wieeeeeee!

And coincidentally, I just so happen to have this appity-app lying around here called PoopooTime so don’t miss to subscribe for a free subscription that will cost you just an arm and a leg.
…
This is how most of post on this sub sounds like, at least those that try to give advice or tips or methods. Either that or they just discovered some nifty little productivity trick that they have been using for a day and a half with great long term results.

So why not try an experiment call Hardest 3’s — the hard edition for hard people:
- for 3 ten days weeks
- you pick 3 books
- and keep away from reddit for all except 3 times – when you start, half way through and at the finishing line.
…• also, do like 3 push ups and drink 3 glasses of water or something.

Pick two self help books and one good fiction and read them, since nothing of value is being said or written on this sub anyway. For hardest of the hard, pick and read 3 books every ten-day week. That’s like ten books or something. So pick any habit book, something for mindfulness, meditation or self therapy and some physical training.

Glhf and hope we don’t see each other here for the rest of the month.

What up with all 5 days accounts

What’s up with all 5 days accounts?

Am I the only one noticing all the 5-6 days old accounts flooding every post? And almost every single one of them has similar style: short message with similar intro “that’s tough/good/impressive” and then a bunch of nothing. And of course, no capital letters.

Just random bot network aging accounts or is there a bunch of shills incoming, more than usual, that needs their “wingmen”? Because it almost always someone jumping at every “I an a total nobody so I wrote a book that only YOU can get for free in the next 3 minutes!!!” And then we have tens of accounts going “pls dm, PLS!!!!”.

Can’t we have some measures for all new accounts commenting beyond age? And same for posting? Would probably improve the state of the sub even if mods are better now with removing some obvious shills within 24 hours.

And now obligatory loren ipsum because every post needs to be a novel: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.
