Talk to me about main line drain fittings, please
These things leak constantly - are they supposed to?? I unscrewed them and cleaned them up and wrapped the threads with new Teflon tape but it didn't help. I didn't even know I had these - they were completely buried under mud and then wrapped wtih tree roots.
But it seems like they're designed to relieve pressure to prevent freeze damage. They have a little screened opening through the center and the flat outer side is covered in a felt-like fabric. These exact ones have been discontinued but I found a similar product here.
And if they ARE supposed to leak... I hate it! Is there a better kind of drain fitting I could use?
Entire system has to 'prime' with water before the selected zone gets full pressure?
When I manually start a zone, I get low-pressure spray or dribble from EVERY sprinkler head on every zone for about 2 minutes, then they all shut off and the selected zone sprays normally with full pressure. What is going on?? Water comes from an irrigation well with a submersible pump. Thank you all for any insight!
