Heel Flap Edge Stitch Issue - Question

Hey folks,

I hope this is okay — I am super new and do not have a human in real life to ask. I am working the Crazy Sock Lady’s vanilla sock on 9” circular pattern. I am on the heel flap, and the pattern has you alternate a row pattern of S1K1, and then S1 purlwise, purl remaining of row.

I just completed a purl row. I had realized I had accidentally knitted an extra row at the end of my pattern a few rows back, and thought I could just drop it off. Well I’m now back to the right number of stitches, but edge is wonky. I tried to keep knitting but realize that will leave a hole.

I’m not sure how/what to google to fix this. It’s not quite a dropped stitch? It’s like I haven’t worked this end row, and need to purl in at least one row.

Any input? I can always tink back but I’m trying to get better at fixing mistakes. Even just direction on what this error is called would be so helpful. I can run with that and deep dive fixes.

Thanks sock friends

Pour one out for my dropped stitch homie

Well it only took me 80 rounds to notice I dropped a stitch on the first round 😭😭😭

I knew my ribbing pattern was weird — I should have problem solved instead of going for it lol.

Now my question is — too far to ladder down? Or is it okay to leave it/sew it in?

I’m following the Crazy Sock Lady’s vanilla sock pattern, and she works in even number of stitches. With an odd number of stitches, will it be impossible to follow? Or should I do an intentional yarn over and knit one more row to increase to an even number of stitches again?

Sorry I’m trying to remember it’s just yarn — first sock, first circular cast on, second project lol. I’m doing okay, but would love input on how to proceed.

Thanks gang

Allowed Questions?

Hey sock friends — figured I’d ask here first, but if this isn’t allowed, feel free to mod-punt me to the knitting help sub lol.

Starting my first vanilla sock and first circular cast on. I’m noticing a big gap between my first stitch and where I’ve joined in the round. Think that’ll tighten up? Or do I need to frog back? I know sheep and stitch warned me about this lol but I didn’t think it would be so pronounced. If I did something funky I’d be all ears.

Thanks to anyone who chimes in 😅

Edit :

Thanks to everyone who chimed in! I am a big dummy and had cast on 63/64 stitches, so I just frogged and started over. I’ve done the extra stitch technique (and didn’t death-grip cast on) and it’s going much better.

Anyone else think the hardest part of knitting is counting? Lol I even used markers. Le sigh.

Joint Pain Tamoxifen / Lowering Dose/Gabapentin/or ??? lol

Ya'll I just need to scream into the void for a moment, and maybe get some input. I've been on tamoxifen for almost a year and a half now. It was a rough start at first, insane hot flashes, super aggressive mood swings, brain fog, constipation, dry eye -- you name it. And then things started to just settle down, I seemed to hit a stasis. I had the ever present dry eye, but to be honest, I'm kind of starting to forget what normal eyes feel like (LOL at another new normal), and I was hitting the acceptance phase. I was feeling like I could manage this! And then the joint pain came. And it came more. I tried tart cherry, and that seemed to work for few months, until it randomly didnt?

Now I have to be careful getting up in the morning because I can't trust my feet to catch me. I literally toppled the other day. My hands ache by the end of the day, and on the worst of days, I feel like I have a low grade fever all over my body, and I struggle to use my keyboard at work.

I'm not even going to get into the other nebulous, not great, but not life impacting side effects (anyone else feel like all their weight has moved to their tummy? and is anyone's eyelashes growing straight down now???). I'm only in my 30s and I am SO sick of feeling like I'm 50 years older than I am. It's kind of this long term hell they don't tell you about.

Anywho, I met with my oncologist this morning for my bi-annual follow up. I went over the above side effects and proceeded to give myself a wicked hot flash as I got worked up just talking about it. She mentioned she would like me to try Gabapentin -- apparently it can help with both the hot flashes and the joint pain? I went digging in this sub, and found mixed feelings about the drug. Any anecdotes anyone wants to share?

She then mentioned that if I am not getting improvement in 2 months with the gaba, that she would like me to quit tamoxifen for 1 month. Get back to a normal baseline, and then re-start at 10mg. She mentioned she wasn't worried about the efficacy of the 10mg. This surprised me, because all research I have found has only looked at DCIS for baby tam. My cancer was IDC. Perhaps she's just thinking any hormone therapy is better than me rage quitting entirely. But I'd be curious if there are any other folks here with IDC that went to 10mg. How were your side effects after lowering the dose? Did your oncologist comment on the effectiveness?

Part of me also just wants to white knuckle another six months to see if things settle down again. Like I said, I had hit a stasis, and it lasted close to 9 months. I was really disappointed my side effects ramped up. Does anyone else have ever changing side effects? Maybe they'll magically disappear next 🙃

BLAAAAHHHH

Thanks to anyone who chimes in as always. Love this sub. I dip in and dip out as time goes on, but it's a relief to know I can always come here and find people who get it.

Twisting Purls?

Hey gang! I just wanted to get a quick gut check from the knitting help forum as I am learning by myself right now with YouTube.

I’ve completed a garter stitch scarf and feel pretty good about my knit stitches. I am brand new to purling though — am I twisting these bad boys?

I don’t feel undue tension and I’m trying to keep my yarn in the front / counter clockwise throw, but some of the Vs I think look wavy….maybe? It’s cheap acrylic and long needles so I am kinda struggling.

Any input would be super appreciated. I’m also willing to video if it’s helpful.

Thanks to anyone who chimes in

Forgive me, I’m working on my second ever swatch. The first one I bailed on as it was way too tight.

So anyways, I had originally thought I had cast on 15 stitches, but counting this last row, I’m seeing 14. I also see the open loopy part on the right hand side.

I’m still trying to learn my stitch anatomy — did I just miscount / have a loose stitch? Or did I drop one? Cat terrorizing me and making problem solving difficult tax on the second picture.

Thanks for any input!
