WorkSource appointments needed before your first unemployment check?

Hey all, wondering if this might be new. I filed unemployment, in a waiting week and received a letter already to schedule an appointment with WorkSource.

is this new? I would assume you would get a check before you are required to schedule. (Don't worry I'm setting things up to get an appointment in! Honestly not sure what those folks can do in my space. I might be educating them how to use AI to do their day job in the appointment to cover all their administrative tasks.

2 people to replace me

Oh ladies, small vent incoming. I have read our posts when women have shared they trained the man replacing them, read when a woman was replaced with two people and living it now.

Not sure if I should feel more confident that two people are needed to replace me in less than 6 weeks or still annoyed I’m looking for a job in this crazy market. (Old company just posted another opening for my same job I was let go for with boss hiring a man from his prior company to do my job.)

Tech was fun when I joined in 2011. We would share the wins and loses. Now it’s just so toxic and no work life balance. (Maybe some have found a great culture. Happy for you, DM me if you are hiring…)

Databricks- back to bro culture

Ladies the tech world and the bro culture is just getting so old at this point.

Long timer at Databricks watching women being pushed out for more tech bros and we have a woman People Officer. It’s just maddening. And the pay gaps are horrible between men and women even though they say it is equal, the RSU’s is where they really put the gaps. There are some great woman leaders voicing concerns where they can while I watch so many from all orgs pushing women out and not hiring women.

Yes, we want to earn the job ourselves as women, once in the company there isn’t support. Has me thinking it’s time to just get out of tech in this bad tech economy.

Are women seeing this behavior in other companies too?

Loving all the posts of support and learning so much from you all. ❤️

I was laid off verbally last week as they hired someone to replace me starting next week. (I was side swiped and had no idea.) Was given even more work the day after I was verbally laid off.

Was told I would need to keep working a few weeks and then get 4 months of severance for working at the company 4 years.

Question-

  1. Severence- I was offered 4 weeks for 4 years. My coworker fired last month had two years employment and offered 3 months severance. How do you ask for more as I think I need 5-6 months based on all the other posts.

  2. Do I push the written termination papers?

  3. And if they did hire the opposite sex, younger, with minimal experience and you are seasoned and a protected class, do you push the wrongful when your performance has always been stellar or just walk away from the toxic and move on?

Now to dive further into everyone’s posts again. Just thankful for you all being so supportive to each other!!! ❤️
