An old drawing copied from a cave wall. The roots beneath us are moving.

I never believed the local folklore about the deep woods behind our town. People used to talk about "The Walkers"—giant, ancient entities that looked like massive, twisted trees from a distance. The stories always said they didn't just walk on top of the ground; their roots dug deep into the earth with every step, feeling every vibration, dragging anything alive down into the dark.

Last week, a team of local spelunkers broke through a collapsed entrance to a cavern that hadn't seen daylight in centuries. Deep inside, carved into the cold stone, was a series of crude depictions made by an ancient tribe.

One of the guys quickly sketched what he saw onto a piece of lined notebook paper before we left. I’m attaching it here.

Look closely at the drawing.

It shows a human figure holding a spear, completely dwarfed by a towering, faceless horror with wooden, branch-like limbs. But the most unsettling part isn't its size. It’s what's happening underneath the ground level.

Those long, chaotic lines beneath the surface... those are roots. The creature isn't just standing there. It's anchored into the earth, spreading its tendrils everywhere beneath the soil like a web.

The tribe who carved this didn't draw a victory. They drew an extinction.

I'm posting this tonight because about an hour ago, the wind completely stopped outside my house. Yet, the floorboards in my living room are lightly vibrating. And from deep under the foundation, I can hear the slow, heavy sound of wood cracking against dirt...
