3rd RIF in 6 years…I’m exhausted

This is part vent/part solidarity/part really need some advice and positive words.

I have been in tech since 2009 in SV and I am so exhausted. I have been through acquisitions, start up shut downs, and most recently mass lay offs. I was laid off in 2020, 2 weeks into COVID from a tech start up. Then again in 2023 from a MAANG as part of 16k people laid off and now again in 2026 from another big tech public company. I am so so tired of it. I’m so tired of interviewing. I have pivoted my career in hopes to be in a safer spot but that clearly didn’t matter.

Every time I interview now, I am just so cynical (but fake my interviews with a smile on my face). I can’t think but wonder, will I just be laid off again in 1 year? Is it just bad luck at this stage? Do I need to change my career? I’m only 44 so can’t retire yet and need to have a good salary to sustain my life in a very high cost of living area. What does one do? I’m so discouraged.

Solo trip opportunity

Boy, I’m all over the place and need some help. I have an opportunity to go somewhere alone or stay at home as my kid and partner will be out of town for almost 2 weeks. I looked at anything and everything and also trying to be reasonable and responsible since they are doing a big trip themselves internationally to see family. I am based in California. This is at the end of July or early August so coming up quickly. Here are some ideas I came up with for myself for 3-5 nights:

- Disneyland alone or grab a friend if time allows because my family has zero desire to go with me and I haven’t been in a decade. I don’t mind alone either.
- four seasons Cabo del sol, Mexico. 🇲🇽 they are doing 4th night free right now. Plus transportation. Plus breakfast. Plus some credit.
- miraval Arizona is all inclusive besides alcohol (fine as I’m not a drinker).

Any other ideas I should be exploring? Which one of these would you pick?

Thank you!!!

What to do!!!

My gorgeous Chi died 2 months ago. Absolutely heart broken. Meanwhile, 2 weeks ago I decided to foster as I like to help pups. Of course, I fall in love with the foster which is another Chi. I gave her back to the shelter for adoption appointments coming this weekend and now I feel heart broken 💔 it’s like having 2 losses in 2 months. I told myself I was fostering because I am not ready for another 15 year commitment yet here I am …. What do I do???? She is 5lbs and 5 years old and just a sweetie. Sigh. I should have never fostered.

5 weeks - miss her so much

I miss my queen. 5 weeks without her feels so empty and quiet. I keep seeing her with the corner of my eye everywhere I go in the house. I keep hearing her paws on the hardwood floor. I miss her! It’s never enough time. Enjoy every moment with your pups! 🐶 we had beautiful 13 years together and 19 in total. She was my rescue pup from a really bad abusive situation. She was petrified of men and leashes but she loved our little family and became the center of it.
