SYN label peeling off while cleaning..

I took my hose faucet sprayer and started spraying around and trying to rub off some chum, no fingernail or anything, and the edge of the label just started peeling. I soaked and shook a bag of iso and salt with the stem and the labels half faded on that. I don’t know what’s going on. Purchased through our shop in 2013, authentic SYN, I’ve seen fire polish labels fad with hand use but this is like a sticker at this point.

20th AE revival, day 5 and 6

Day 5: Mostly wiring. I’ve never done wiring. YouTube and old forum posts to the rescue. Butt connectors and shrink wrap later, we’re done (for now).

Posted this on another sub but I think my boost gauge wiring is all chewed? I think it was run on a bad location and added insult to injury when the furry friends found it sitting. Anyhow; found a torn hose which I believe goes to the block. Ugh hoping for the best but we’ll see. Gotta remove the intake manifold to reach it. Will post pics on one of the next missions.

Day 6: Bought a HF warrior brand heat gun for the shrink tubing for the electrical connections.

Decided to get the car in the air. Just to look around. I remembered that I severely damaged my dog bone mount. Broke the cast tongue off the bell housing so the dogbone is dangling everywhere. :/

Also, I cannot get the battery tray tiedown bolt out. I bought a metric extraction set and the bolt is spinning, but it’s not coming out. I applied some under pressure, pushing up on the tie down plate from underneath, and it just spins. Any advice?

+bonus wasp nest on my pully. I need a power washer bad. I’ll post the goody box of new parts soon. Some from back in 2012, some from a few months ago. I just hope I don’t need to yank the motor. Only time (and oil) will tell!

Take care folks. Stay cool during the heat wave on the east coast.

Can you lower a power window without car battery? 03 VW GTI

I’ve got a 03 Volkswagen GTI 20th AE with some chewed up wiring. I’m trying to get the door to shut but it just blocks off the bar. Replacing the door lock module is my next move.

The DIY on YouTube shows you have to roll the window down a little bit to access some torque bits for the window clamps in order to remove the inner trim panel to access the door lock module. (Sorry for the run-on sentence)

Is there a way I can rig up a plug of some sort or some alligator clips with some power feed to get the window down? Pretty sure the plug is on the inside of the panel so I wouldn’t have access to it. I do have access to the window control through the drivers window switch if that helps?

Any advice would be great.

20th AE revival, day 3 and 4 (hatch lock quick fix)

Day 3: Slow day. Bunch of rain. Managed to go through the vehicle more with mold cleaner to just double down. Some of the black fabric from the door cards and rear inner panels started peeling more so I removed one. Using a shop vac and a bristle brush attachment, just rubbed all the orange glue off the panel. Might just do all of them and keep the templates for a future rewrap.

Day 4: More rain. I have a Blue spare hatch as the current has a dent. But through tinkering on that I managed to figure out the latch mechanism. So I popped my 20th hatch and brake clean/lubed up the mechanism and wiggled till it freed up. (2nd photo is before the cleaning and lubing)

Now it works again. So now onto the driver door once the rain is done.

I’m predicting the door latch mechanism is bound with hardened lubricants and I’ll have to either full disassembly, (found a YouTube video of this) or a replacement which is around $40 on RockAuto.

Once the vehicle shuts all the way again, I can work on inspecting the wiring more and get into that. That’s when I’ll be asking some questions!

Take care folks. Stay dry!

20th AE revival, day 2

Mostly a log of the resurrection of my VW. Questions will be asked. Hope yall can help when I get into a pickle.

Sitting since 2014. Something got into the wiring harness while it’s sat, so the fuel injectors need new wires and part of the power distribution (above battery) wiring harness needs replacement. I have since purchased both or found parts of the junkyard. Driver door and hatch won’t shut, need to remove trim and figure it out. YouTubed the lock mechanism and nothings worked yet. I won’t know how bad it is until I get into it.

Day 1: just getting seats removed and cleaning the vehicle out. Not too much more unfortunately.

Day 2: Spray out the vehicle with RV mold remover and shop vac out the vehicle. Same with seats. Still need to get steam cleaned for sanitary purposes but makes working in vehicle bearable.

Degreased engine bay (removed air filter and such) and sprayed with hose. Wish I had a power washer. One day lol. Getting to get some small wiring done tomorrow. Battery tray tie down bold is being a jerk so gotta keep hitting it with Deep Creep and hope it loosens. Also can’t find my wheel lock key.. that’s unfortunate.

Till next time folks!

Found outside my back door

Not sure what it is. We have street cats but no loose dogs. I live in a pretty suburban area next to a highway.

Any of these fluids from 2017 still usable?

Bought these fluids ages ago in prep for maintenance. I had a 2006 Dodge 1500 6 cylinder 2x4 around 2018 for a little bit before getting my current 2008 Dodge 1500 4.7 4x4.

4.7 is hitting 200k and just wondering if I can still use it to refresh the rear end and coolant (on top of the other things to go over).

Is any of this usable? It’s been unopened for 9 years.

G-05 coolant
DOT3 brake fluid
75-140w Syn power gear oil
Trans X - Limited Slip additive
