Cali to Denver Experiences?

hi there! i’m originally from rural kansas, but i’ve been living in LA for the last 9 years. i’m planning to make a move in 2027 to be closer to my parents, and denver is at the top of my list. hiking is so important to me. and as a single gay 30 year old dude, being in a city is also important.

are there any people here who moved from cali to denver in the last few years?? how has it been? having grown up with seasons, i’m actually kinda excited to have them again. the best part of socal is the weather, but the last few years of my life have definitely felt like groundhog day in a way that hasn’t always been good for me. the weather being the same 340 days of the year is amazing and also a mindfuck at times. but of course the grass is always greener!! and i’ll probably regret saying that. speaking of which, when i visited denver last year, i remember thinking it was so much greener than LA, but i’m seeing people on this subreddit say otherwise?

anyway, would love to hear any thoughts on anything at all from people who have made similar moves. one of my frustrations with LA is even though people are quite friendly i think (at least compared to big cities on the east coast), everyone can be flakey af, and it gets harder and harder to make new friends as some old friends move on to married/family life. i think a huge part of it is just how spread out LA is. i can’t tell you the number of times i’ve made a new friend i was excited about and then we don’t actually end up hanging out until like a year later. so many friends i see like twice a year lol

thanks y’all!

solo trips in the U.S. or central america?

late 20s gay male here and in the states. already planning a big europe trip for next summer (have a wedding to go to there anyway), but i’m looking to plan a 5ish day thing for february or so. thinking of planning a solo trip in the states or in central america. any suggestions? already searched this thread a bunch but didn’t see a lot of central america recs. i know not everywhere is as gay friendly but hoping to find something if possible. goal is for like 50% sightseeing/nature maybe, 30% great food, 20% bar time / slutty time. if i stay in the states, i don’t want to do the obvious (SF, etc). same for PV

Cheapest Way To Live Near Water?

Hi there! I’ve lived in LA for about five years now, and I’m looking to move. I will probably have to move away in about two years to help take care of my parents in the midwest. Since this may be my last move here at least for this part of my life, I’m looking to switch it up. Who knows I may never live this close to the coast again. Anyway, I’ve always lived in Los Feliz, but I want to move closer to the water, even if it means moving as far as Long Beach. I work remote and East Coast hours, so I end work every day around 2. A lot of the time I’m like why am I paying this much money to live in California to only see the water once a month. For a long time, I assumed ANYWHERE closer to the water would be more expensive, but I often randomly meet people at the beach who live in Palms or something and pay way less than me. Does anyone have any recs? My friends are spread out all over LA and even some near Anaheim, so I’m not really worried about being far from some of them. Since I don’t commute for work, I need an excuse to sometimes have to drive more than five minutes away anyway haha. I’m a 32 year old single gay man if that affects the neighborhood recs at all

EDIT: Okay I have a decent budget LOL. I didn’t mean I’m broke. I pay $2,200 for a one bedroom in Los Feliz. I just meant like what are areas that are more like 15 minutes from the beach rather than an hour that aren’t fourteen thousand dollars a month

Dog-friendly road trips?

hi there! been living here for seven years. there’s a chance i’m going to have to move this fall for a bit for family reasons. trying to soak in as much of california while i still can. i go to santa barbara and san diego a lot, but i feel like there is sooooo much nature i’ve taken for granted. i live right across from griffith and it’s so easy to hike there every weekend that i forget how many places i should be road tripping.

anyway, if you only had a few months left in california, what are some must do summer road trips that are dog-friendly?
