IWTL University-level Physics, MechE, and Econ (without slogging through a full semester)

Hey everyone, I’m looking for high-density quick resources to self-teach upper-level academic subjects.

For background, I have a degree in CS and in medicine, and I'm currently working as a SWE at Google. I'm a relatively very fast learner and grasp complex technical concepts easily — but between work and a baby at home, I don't have the bandwidth to watch 40 hours of introductory lectures on MIT OCW or sit through a Coursera track. I'm looking to dive quickly into the deep end of a few areas for fun:

- physics: Classical/quantum mechanics, thermodynamics.

- mechanical Engineering: Statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics.

- Economics: Micro/macro fundamentals, game theory.

What are the best accelerated frameworks, core textbooks, or curated reading lists that get right to the underlying mechanics and derivations without the slow pacing of a traditional academia?

Thanks!

First time buying used: CPO Volvo XC60 vs CPO Genesis GV70?

Hey everyone, I’ve always bought new, but I'm tired of taking the initial depreciation hit on luxury cars. While my budget can technically stretch to $100k, I’d much prefer to stay around $30k–$50k to maximize value.

Since it's my first time not buying new, I’m leaning toward Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) for the warranty and peace of mind.

I’m currently coming from a fully loaded BMW X3 2021 and really don't want a major downgrade in interior materials, cabin quietness, or tech. I've narrowed my choices down to a Volvo XC60 ultra or plus mild hybrid or a Genesis GV70 3.5 sport or 2.5 sport.

A few questions:

  1. New vs. CPO vs. Used: For Genesis and Volvo, is the CPO markup actually worth it? What specific maintenance records or red flags should a first-time used buyer look for?

  2. XC60 vs. GV70: Coming from German luxury with great dealership experience, which of these feels more comparable?

  3. What specific recent model years offer the best balance of modern features while avoiding the steepest depreciation?

Appreciate any advice

How much to put in 529 education account?

Hey everyone, I didn't study in the US, so the higher education system here is a bit of a mystery me. I have a toddler and want to start a 529 plan to give her a solid head start, but the numbers I'm seeing online are giving all over the place.

So far, I've been putting 11k/year in perpetuity. My goal is to find a bachelor degree + dorm fee + food + IRA Roth transfer limit, and leave some room if they choose to pursue a master/phD or a professional degree.

Could anyone give me a realistic ballpark of what a 4-year degree actually costs these days? I'm looking for the total "all-in" number (tuition, fees, dorms, food, etc.). And how about higher education?

Also, what does a normal In-State Public University run per year vs. a Private/Ivy school?
