The rings I like are out of his current budget

I am so happy to be engaged. I'm not sure I even want a metal ring (I'm currently wearing a silicone one which is very comfortable but it keeps falling off). We are still going to have a look at some in person in case I change my mind and find one that feels comfortable to wear.

The problem is: the ones I like online are around £2500. That feels like a lot. I want lab grown stones. His budget is half that at the moment because of financial reasons. Is it weird to take his budget and for me to pay for the rest of it so I can get one I like?

Why does 18ct sometimes cost more than 22ct in jewellery to buy?

I apologise if this is a stupid question. I bought this pendant for £280 (not the chain) and I know this is expensive for such small pendant. It's 22ct gold, 1.6g. I had to have it though because I really liked it, and I wanted something for daily wear. I don't intend to sell it. But I still wanted the best price.

I have seen pendants that are 18ct gold for this price and sometimes more. How is this possible?

Edit: I saw this one in two different shops and the price was almost the same in both. The other one had it for £285.
