Working hard to survive the heat wave

This has been an exceptionally weird weather year. Strawberry’s suffered the heat and have mostly mushed. Radishes bolted hard. This week was very wet and hot. Temps 30-40c. I did a lot of air flow pruning to hopefully combat the humidity, and shade cloth to hopefully prevent rot.

Successes: lettuce - romaine has done well but all needs to be harvested as the heat is starting to bolt them. The tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and beans are all coming along and the cabbage looks fabulous as well. Cannabis is doing its thing with LST but will be a late harvest given the cold spring.

First timer updates

I have continued the course and done some fertilizing per instructions as well as some defoliation. We’ve had some hot and sunny days and the girls are looking good as far as I can see.

Canada Day weekend update

The heat has the garden hopping along. The 2 new beds get the most sun and it really shows. The cherry tomatoes in the bags are overwhelmingly large already. Hopefully some fruit soon. Sadly the radishes bolted. When it cools I’ll put in more and try again. The romaine has been excellent so far

Year three expansions

Added 2 raised beds in the veg garden and opened up the fruit area to accommodate more berries and some fruit trees. I re jigged the trellis and may still make and addition and adjustment. Irrigation is half complete in Veggie garden and will need to be made for the fruit area. Overall I’m so happy. Most everything is reclaim or reuse except the fence and posts, and some of the trellis stakes are new. I reuse them till they break.
