Submitted VMCAS app - missing doc alert?

Finally submitted my VMCAS app! All transcripts and 4 recommendation letters have already been in and were received over a month ago. My status says “received” but the message is below it says “Your application has been submitted, but you are missing required documents. If you have confirmed all your documents have been received, please keep in mind that the status update can take up to 24 hours once the requirements are met.”
Did anyone else have this happen? Payment went through for VMCAS and supplemental app fees. I’m not sure what else could be missing, but hoping this is just a normal post submission message 😬

Research assistant resume?

I was supposed to start a research assistant job at my university’s dairy farm last week, and I was going to list it on VMCAS and the resume I submit with my application even though I would only have like 20 hours or so by the time I submit. I have an injury that now means I can’t start the job until mid September when Dr restrictions are over. My boss is aware and willing to work with me on the start date without issue. The research isn’t under a vet, but I will be doing blood draws on dairy cows amongst other things.

Would it be ok to still list this on my detailed resume when I apply as long as I make it clear that this job will begin in September? I just feel like it’s worth mentioning that I’ll do it, but I also don’t know if that is frowned upon or not. Anyone know?

Supplemental “optional” essay?

One of the schools I am applying to has several required essays and one optional. I have my other essays written and feel pretty decent about them. I was planning to skip the optional essay, but now I’m wondering if it’s one of those things where they say it’s optional but it actually hurts you if you don’t do it (because you look lazy or something). I know none of us prob have the answer, but does anyone have any thoughts or gut feedings etc? Thanks!

VMCAS essay prompt question

Would it be risky to focus the essay on new staff education, compassion and teamwork. Like a lot of us, my first clinic was rough. Thrown in, expected to figure it out. Made unnecessary mistakes. New clinic this summer with an actual training/mentor program that has been amazing for learning and growing. When staff works well together it’s amazing how much better care we are able to provide to patients. But I’m scared because it’s not exactly animal or owner focused. I will steer away from bad mouthing my first clinic, no mention of toxic or anything negative. Anyone have any thoughts?
I initially wanted to focus on client education but alas I have already written a supplemental essay that focused on that prompt and I don’t want to be repetitive. Help! Advice! Thanks!

Last 45 hours help

Hi! I’m a little confused about how the last 45 hours is calculated for VMCAS. Here is my situation.
Spring 2026: 16 hours taken
Fall 2025: 16 hours taken
Summer 2025: 3 hours taken
Spring 2025: 15 hours taken

That adds up to 50 hours. Does my last 45 GPA actually use all 50 of those hours to calculate my GPA since I need all 4 semesters to hit that 45 hour mark?

How to list things on VMCAS

I worked in the same clinic May - August (12 weeks in a row) and then again in December for 2 weeks (14 weeks total). I’m getting confused about number of weeks on VMCAS- do I say 14 weeks or the total number weeks from my start date in May until the end of December?

Allergies

Current pre vet student applying for the first time this summer. Long history of allergies (animal and environmental) and did 3yrs of allergy shots in middle and early high school. Had to discontinue due to becoming super reactive to them around 2.5yrs. Take daily Zyrtec and nasacort to function (during school year when not working in vet clinic).

Dream is to be a vet. This is my second summer working in a vet clinic. I need Allegra and Zyrtec and nasacort spray in the morning and Zyrtec at night (allergist approved). It is still not cutting it. If I wear short sleeves, my arms get hives. If the wrong animal comes in, I react to it. I’m randomly allergic to one cat but not another or one dog, no rhyme or reason and don’t seem to react to all of them. Allergist wants to prescribe xolair which is a biologic. I want to do it. Parents are now trying to dissuade me from being a vet due to my level of symptoms and now requiring a biologic med to get through. (As of now allergy shots are not on the table, but potentially down the road if the Xolair calms things down).

Am I crazy to subject myself to all these meds just to live the dream? Has anyone with allergies had them improve due to working around animals you were allergic to?

I don’t think I’m crazy for still wanting to be a vet but my parents are getting under my skin with suggesting alternatives and making me worry about being sick due to working in an environment I react to. I love vet med, and can’t envision myself doing anything else.
