Is it possible to complete a full CS degree entirely at the UNT Frisco campus?

Is it possible to complete a full CS degree entirely at the UNT Frisco campus?

Hey everyone,
I'm currently knocking out my lower-level CS courses at Collin College and planning to transfer to UNT soon.
I was looking into the UNT Frisco campus, but I wanted to know: is it actually possible to complete the entire B.S. in Computer Science degree exclusively at the Frisco location? Or will I inevitably have to commute to the main Denton campus for certain upper-level core classes and electives?
If anyone here has taken CS classes at Frisco or tried to do their whole degree there, I’d love to hear about your experience. Thanks!

Does UNT accept CLEP for the CS Science + Lab requirement? (Transferring from Collin)

Hey everyone,

I’m currently at Collin College completing my prerequisites and planning to transfer to UNT's Computer Science / Software Development program in Fall 2027. (I'm also keeping UTA/UTD open as backups just in case).

I still need to fulfill my Science + Lab requirement for the degree. Instead of taking a full 4-credit class, I’m considering taking a CLEP exam (like Biology) to save time and protect my GPA.

My main questions are:

  • Does UNT fully accept CLEP credit for the science requirement, including the Lab portion?
  • Has anyone here successfully used CLEP to bypass a science class with a lab for the College of Engineering?
  • If you applied to UTA or UTD as well, did you run into any transfer issues with those schools regarding CLEP science credits?

I want to make sure I don't screw up my transfer credits. Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful! Thanks!

Easiest Science + Lab class and Professor recommendations? (CS Major transferring to UNT/UTA)

Hey everyone,

I’m a Computer Science major currently at Collin, planning to transfer to UNT (and keeping UTA/UTD open as backups).

I need to take a science class with a lab this upcoming Spring semester to fulfill my transfer requirements. My schedule is already going to be pretty heavy with Linear Algebra and retaking CS1, so I’m looking for a science class that is as painless and easy as possible to protect my GPA.

I am only looking for classes at the Plano Campus.

I’m currently debating between:

  • BIOL 1406 (Safer for UTA/UTD transfer?)
  • GEOL 1403 or ENVR 1401 (Heard these are the easiest, but might only count for UNT?)

Does anyone have professor recommendations specifically for the Plano campus? (Looking for easy graders, open-note exams, or straightforward labs).

Also, a question about CLEP: Has anyone tried taking a CLEP exam (like Biology) to cover this science requirement? Does it fully cover the Lab portion as well, or will I run into transfer issues with UNT/UTA/UTD if I go this route?

CS Major: Do I have to take classes at both Denton and Frisco? (No car & stressed about commuting)

Thank you all for answering my question.
What I was worried about is a situation where certain classes are only offered in Frisco, which would inevitably force students to go there.
Is this really the case? I’d like to hear from current students.

University Physics II really NOT required?

Hey everyone,

I’m an F-1 international student currently at Collin College, planning to transfer to UNT for a BS in Computer Science in Fall 2027.

I was looking closely at the UNT Engineering Guidebook for the pure CS degree plan, and it looks like it only requires "2 lab sciences" from a list, rather than explicitly requiring Physics II. My current plan is to use University Physics I (taking it this fall) and General Chemistry I (taking it in the spring) to fulfill those two science requirements.

I know that Computer Engineering and other engineering majors strictly require Physics II, but pure CS doesn't seem to. Because of this, I actually just dropped my Physics II summer class to save time, stress, and money.

Can any current UNT CS majors confirm that University Physics II is 100% NOT required to graduate?

As an international student, I have a very strict 2-year graduation timeline once I transfer due to visa and financial reasons. I just want to make absolutely sure I didn't make a huge mistake by dropping it! Any confirmation or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Will the missing ENGR class delay my graduation?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently an F-1 international student at Collin College majoring in Computer Science, planning to transfer to UNT in Fall 2027.

I was looking closely at the UNT CS degree plan and noticed that an Engineering class (like ENGR 2306) is required and seems to be a prerequisite for some upper-level CS courses. The problem is, Collin College doesn’t offer this class or an exact equivalent.

I am really stressed about this causing a bottleneck. I’m terrified that missing this one specific prerequisite will create a domino effect, locking me out of the classes I need to take right after I transfer.

My strict goal is to graduate from UNT in exactly 2 years after transferring. As an international student, staying an extra semester isn't just about time—it means paying thousands of extra dollars for international health insurance, living expenses, and tuition. I really can't afford to be delayed.

Has anyone here transferred from Collin to UNT for CS?

  • How did you handle the missing engineering prerequisite?
  • Did it force you to stay longer than 2 years?
  • Should I try to take it via concurrent enrollment at UNT before I officially transfer, or over the summer?

Any advice, degree plan workarounds, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
