Hello. My partner purchased a shirt on clearance, the buttonhole is frayed and the button was inserted in a fault outside the actual hole (tried best to demonstrate this). I’m looking for ideas or advice on how best to approach mending this. I’ve got basic sewing skills and a machine, though thinking hand sewing will be best here.

I wondered if blanket stitching with a close match thread would be best? Darning or reinforcing the fault side of the buttonhole with a patch? The fabric is polyester.
