How to give proper reactions
So..I suck at giving reactions...I mean Idk how to react properly to things.. especially when someone is being vulnerable with me and telling me their problems and trauma etc..im just like ohh..I'm sorry to hear that...but I can't always say this right?
Like what should I say?
Basically I have a friend who has a lot of problems that sr r going on in his life.
Like his dad has severe health issues, he is very insecure of himself, he has to go to hospital a lot cuz of his dad and himself too, because the diseace his dad has he too might get it...etc...and idk how to react.
Since we are living far away from eachother I can't do anything...if it would have been in real life im sure that I would have given him a hug held his hand or wrapped my arms around his shoulder in a comforting way,but I can't do that...it's not like I don't understand him,I do alot...we are super close, and we tell eachother a lot of things ,and are comfortable enough to open up to eachother,and he trusts me that's why he's telling me all that, but he's genuinely very disappointed by my reaction..and I'm not blaming him...I genuinely don't know how to react
Like recently after a long hectic day he came from hospital and told me about it and I said ohh..koi nahi...and he said in a sarcastic way ki that's exactly what you want to hear from your friend after a long hectic day😭..I felt so bad cuz he was right...but how the fk should I react?
Like once we were talking after so long and catching up on eachother and he told me about how doctor's told he too might get what his dad has and he has to take a lot of pills he can't sleep his insecurity about his physical features are increasing he's feeling very demotivated etc..and he was telling me all that after a lot of courage ..cuz it's very personal and vulnerable and only hai close ones know that...and after he told me..he waited for my reaction but I just gave himmm..ki idk what to say....😭 As I think about this reaction it makes me so angry of myself..he must have felt so bad ...and I'm so bad for not giving the reaction he wanted.
..I listen to whatever he says very carefully..but after he finishes telling I can't say anything.. because idk what to say..pr what am I supposed to say.
I can't say ki im sorry always..he wants more and I should give him more but how should I react.
