6 Months In, What are 3 Things You’d Change about the new Aeroplan?
We’re about 6 months in to the revamped Aeroplan program. Overall, I have to say I am a fan. I’m a short haul business traveller (usually YYZ-YOW booked 1-2 weeks in advance), so this has rewarded me significantly better than the previous program in terms of both points and SQM. I’ll requalify for SE this year much earlier, and will earn at least 100-200k more points than under the previous program.
That said, there are a few things I’d love to see them adjust for 2027. Here are my top 3:
Increase the 25,000 SQC cap for premium credit cards. This is too low and has significantly devalued the card.
The SQC earn for Star Alliance (non 014) is too low — for an upcoming LAX-LIH-SFO trip I’m only going to earn 506 SQC. While I understand why this is a lower earn than 014 flights, it’s paltry. Perhaps they could increase the SQC earn based on status level?
LQM is still stuck in the old program. I’ve been 50k/75k/SE for a decade and I’m still only 25% of the way to MM, because most of my flights are short haul. Similar to SQC, spend should be taken into account for LQM (this could be in addition/alternate to earning based on distance).
What’s your top three wishlist for changes in 2027?
